I just started hatching silkie eggs in February. My first hatch, 3 out of 7 eggs hatched. The 4 that didn't were total duds. I now have paint and lavender eggs in...and only 2 out of the 7 developed! I payed A LOT for the eggs too. I even made appropriate mods for the 2nd hatch(let the eggs...
I am soo excited! My first incubated eggs are hatching. I was really worried when I saw only 3 developed. They were shipped silkie eggs, so you never know with those I guess. I have the Brinsea Mini Advance, which only holds 7 eggs. But I am happy I at least have some hatching! I'll keep you...
Decided to do a little spring photo shoot of my 2 week old silkies. Here's a few of my favorites, including one of my almost 3 month old buff silkie(hopefully pullet!) Her name is Kahlua, or Big Bird as I call her
I incubated my first eggs ever from shipped eggs. I waited about 2 hours before I put them in my incubator. (Brinsea Mini Advanced(Auto Turner). I am now on day 15, and only 3 out of the 7 developed. I did have the auto turner on right away, and did not let them sit. They are also silkies, so...
Yesterday I picked up my 8 silkies from the post office. From Ideal Poultry, have used them twice and really love the quality, and haven't had any die either time! This time I got 6 blue, and 2 gray little fluff balls. They are so tiny and adorable
So only 3 of the 7 silkie eggs I put in are developing. The other ones have nothing, and look VERY porous... This is my first incubation, so I am kind of disappointed but I did buy them from ebay...so there's always a risk with shipping etc. Hopefully all goes well with the 3 that are growing!
My silkies are 5 weeks old now. They are in my basement which is about 60 degrees. Can I turn the heat lamp off yet? Or how long do I need to keep it on yet.
Thanks!
I just bought the Brinsea Mini Advanced. It has the automatic egg turner. It's really a nice little incubator. Holds 7 standard eggs. With shipping it was $139.99 brand new.
