Not new to the forum, but new to WA where I bought a summer house (reverse snow bird). Technically live in Phoenix, but in Port Orchard (near Fred Meyer) right now. Bought three chicks last night to start a flock here.
Anyone know the regulations for East Port Orchard?
Unfortunately it didn't end well .
I was able to catch her. she seemed perfectly normal in every respect with the exception that she was in a constant state of screaming like she was about to die. She ate drank and played with the other ducks normally.
I didn't try craigslist because I didn't...
No, not spooked...this is something long term. I think I'm going to have to get rid of her (take to a neighborhood duck pond...I wonder if that is even legal...). I don't think I'm able to catch her though, might have to shoot her.
I had another female that hatched some eggs and it quacked like...
Well, I discovered that the He is really the She....guess I counted wrong in the mixup of birds. Can't tell any difference in behavior, it's just driving me crazy. It's like when they quack when yuo take their babies away from them.
Hi,I have a question that I can find an answer to. I have 3 KC ducks about 2 years old (2M, 1F). A couple of days ago one of the males started to quack non-stop...all day and all night. He has also lost his wing feathers and seems to have changed colours. The feathers may have happened before...
I have about 30 eggs in the hatcher (lock down). All looked pretty good going in, but after 1 day the ABSOLUTE WORST SMELL EVER started coming out. 7 chicks have hatched so far (a day early) and seem to be doing really well...better than other hatches that I've had at this point.
Anyway, should...
Well, I gave up and cracked the incubator for about 3 seconds to remove one of the eggs with a beak sticking out. It didn't move when I poked it with a wire through the vent hole. I then peeled away the shell and membrane, but it was dead. I do hear more peeping from the other eggs, but I fear...
I have about 7 hatching eggs with cracked or broken shells, but after almost 24 hours no chicks have emerged and all seem to be stuck inside the internal membrane.
I haven't opened the incubator in 4 days. I don't know what the humidity level is, but it should be up there.

Hey, I'm in Phx too and my first hatch is going on today (I hope). I just heard my first peep a few minutes ago on day 21. Let me know if you ever need any eggs, I've got a ton.
Update: OK I got two pips so I guess I didn't do something horribly wrong and kill them all . Now I just have to wait for them to pop out. I hear peeping now too. Yay!
Thanks for the reassurment!

Thanks, I think I'm just more impatient to try again since I have a lot better idea what to expect this time around...and I have 80 eggs(!) waiting to have a go at it.
My eggs are due to hatch today. I'd been candling the eggs with inconclusive results. I did throw out the clear eggs and something was growing in the ones that I left in the incubator, but I couldn't see through the shells enough to tell what.
Anyway, they've been 'locked down' for the last...
