I'm not sure if you were meaning to sound condescending or not, but you kinda did. I may be new to this, but I'm not completely naive. And not that I should need to explain myself to you, but I will anyway. I thought I had done some pretty detailed research, but I am still finding new...
so what we are saying is that I have mean birds? lol I was just reading about feather picking, and it says boredom, small space, protein deficiency, or bullies. They have 120sqft of outdoor space, and 48sqft of indoor space for 9 chickens, so I know it's not a lack of space. We let them out in...
This is still the first year with my girls, so I'm still learning. My 2 JBG have these bald spots. I do not see any signs at all of mites, and everyone else seems to be fine. I was thinking the one that is balding on her head (it looks redder in the picture than it does in person. it's not raw...
I may have gotten a black andalusian in my latest batch of chicks (they were all supposed to be black stars). Though it's still really too early to worry about it, I am doing as much research on the breed as possible. However, I can't seem to find any of the info I want!
I found that they lay...
So now that I'm in daylight, It seems they are all yellow. The only one I question is the first one on the left, just because it is so much more pale than the rest. This is the one with all black tops of feet and the white dots near the eyes.
THANK YOU! It's hard to tell right now, between looking into the brooder with the red light (turns everything green), and moving to the yellow lights that are in the house. I will double check tomorrow in daylight. 2 definitely have yellow/orange feet, but 2 are a questionable pink/yellow. So as...
This is our second year with chickens, so of course we had to get more! Unfortunately, the place we got them last year is no longer with us, so I had to go to their competitor. They had Black Star and Black Andalusians (yes, black, not blue - this is what they told me. Said they ordered blue but...
if those are the nesting boxes on the right, I don't see any reason why a duck wouldn't be able to get into them. they are pretty low. and ducks do fly...
This is my first chicken rodeo, so I needed a little advice on food. I read on here somewhere that you start feeding them layer feed only after they start laying, because if you feed it before the calcium can screw up their systems? I have 4 Red Stars, 3 wyandotte, and 2 BJGs. The reds...
They are now 13ish weeks. They keep changing so much, it's hard to figure out who is who with they wyandotte and JBGs. We used to tell the JBGs apart because sheriff had one white feather on either wing. They are gone now. And they like to take turns on which one is bigger, so it's hard to tell...
I will say, however, I'm holding out hope. This is an 8 wk someone else posted, and I said instantly that this one was roo because he has WAY more wattle and redder comb than meg ever has lol
Thank you for the info and comparisons! Nugget, meg, and ellen are all GLWs. I was only questioning breed on the red stars, and only because of their coloring when we got them. but all the GLWs have rose combs, it's just a weird angle. however, her beak is much darker than the others' beaks. It...
I know no one has commented on this thread in 2 years lol but I'm new to this chicken thing and wanted to show my babies! and if you wanna help sex them for me, that'd be great! :)
this one on the left look like my Black Jersey Giants, but could be black orp. they look similar at this age. the combs on mine are still yellow though, sooooo
This one looks just like my gold laced wyandottes, only much more boy looking. Not just the larger, redder comb and wattle, but also the way the saddle feathers are coming in more colorful than mine. granted, mine are only 7 weeks as opposed to your 8 weeks, but yours screams boy much more than...
