I live in WA state and it rains here 80%of the year (sarcasm, I'm not sure how often it really rains, but it's a lot) my chickens are always roaming in the rain so i think its safe to assume the mist you set up is fine for them.
My little Hercules the silkie roo is such a sweet boy. I had an easter egger and polish though that were aweful! He went thru a short phase in his teens trying to figure out his life but he's about a year now and is really good to his ladies and doesn't attack people. He tries to dance for the...
I found thday most of my chickens started laying around 6 months. Even my leghorn (which is supposed to be an early layer) was 24 weeks before she laid.
My silkies are actually really good layers when they aren't broody. About 5 eggs a week each. Between being young, the short cold months and moving to a new environment it's probably thrown her out of wack. Give her some time, she'll cone around.
Also, if she went broody before you got her...
I don't know, maybe a mild case of it... het head doesn't flop astound and she sends to style habe balance. Her neck just does to want to stay centered.
I have a silkie whose neck kinda slides to the right when she looks up. Resets her head back to center and it slides back over. I rescued her a month ago and, of course, just brought her out of quarentine. Its not something i noticed until now, but its possible i over looked it with her being...
I picked 2 with the darkest V and eye liner lol.. and you are correct that they are at the same feathering stages. When i got them they were the same size. The one grew a lot faster and freaked me out a bit. Tho i hear if I'm going to have a rooster, welsummers are pretty tame...
Thank you! Chick seems lively and well other than being small and seems to have good access to the feed. They could possibly be a day or two difference but by 2 weeks you wouldn't be able to tell. I didn't think about different genetics! I'll just keep a close watch and we'll see what happens lol
I know typically this would be an indication of the larger being a cockerel. But these are welsummers and the males typically don't have the eyeliner or V markings on there heads. These chicks are also sexed from a hatchery (i know it's still not 100%accurate).. their feathering seems to be...
