1 from Matilda… plus a super secret ‘Scovy nest chock-full of eggs that I found as I was locking up the barn for the night. The girls are playing nice still, so I’ll let them keep it, at least for tonight!
I’m just shrugging my shoulders at this point. Mine have ramped up their “secret nest building” skills 100%. Will I find zero, or will I find ten? :idunnoThere was a hidden nest under a half bale of hay one day, and another under a turned over Rubbermaid box another.
Also, despite barely having...
Yesterday: 1xMuscovy 1xDaphne (after a hefty dose of calcium).
Today: Zero, and the Muscovies are acting shady.
There’s definitely a hidden nest somewhere…
I may have both Muscovies producing now. Goon 2 (pied Muscovy) has been reluctant to leave the barn the past couple of mornings. I’ve been assuming that she was the one laying, so thought she might be moving towards being broody. However, she hasn’t been chirping. This AM, she left the nest...
2 yesterday (1x ‘Tildy, 1x ‘Scovy). 2 of the same today + a membrane from Daphne after giving her calcium last night for mild symptoms (sitting frequently while foraging).
2 today (1x Matilda, 1x Muscovy). 2 + a membrane (from the usual suspect) yesterday. I’m not entirely sure why only one Muscovy is laying (that I know of) both are in top condition and eat the same food and live the same lifestyle. :idunno
Edited to fix my phone’s insistence that I must mean...
6… 3 Tildy eggs, 1 Daphne egg (decent) + 2 Muscovy eggs. I still can’t confirm that both Muscovies are laying as the eggs I found today were quite well hidden (hence the 3 from Matilda). I think they’re just messing with me now, honestly.
Admittedly, it’s been a long week and I haven’t been as diligent about searching for eggs. I thought I cleared them out last night, but found 4+ a membrane this AM. I think Matilda hid a couple that I just found. At any rate, at least one Muscovy has joined the party in the past few days, I...
2 yesterday. 2 today. Daphne’s contributions have been quite decent, although still clearly discernible from Matilda’s works of art. Muscovies are still on a break. I guess this means less time I need to worry about broodiness this season! We already have a surplus of eggs from just Matilda (and...
I couldn’t find any yesterday, but found 3 today. Hmmm… could the middle egg be from Daphne? All 3 are green, so no Muscovy contributions yet, at least none that I can find. I think my pied Muscovy is very close though.
🤷♀️ At least she’s behaving normally. However, it’s a good reminder that I do need to stock up on calcium for her for the season. I was kind of hoping she was going to go straight into henopause after last season. Matilda is clearly a “bad” influence, laying perfect eggs every day, making poor...
1 nice egg from Tildy, plus the greatest abomination ever created by duck-kind. I can only assume that Daphne, bless her soul, was trying to contribute. It was about 2 inches long, soft-shelled, and only contained egg-white, no yolk. Daphne’s layed some absolute horrors in her time, but this...
Still just little Matilda’s daily egg! We’ve had a few cold gray days again, well below freezing. The ducks have chosen to stay in the barn, meaning less natural sunlight. The Muscovies are close, but I think they need a few more good full days of sun to get them going.
