Hi,
Ok I have ended up with well a lot of chickens we have around 100+ right now to many for a exact count and the amount of feed we are going through is incredible. We were feeding layer and corn all winter I noticed when I ran out of corn that we still went through the same amount of layer...
I did a search on google images for chicken ascities and even found pictures which match what I saw did a little more looking at articles on google and found that this is apparently quite common in broilers.
Thanks so much for the help Nicki
Thanks for the reply this was a older chicken I was just puzzled by all the yellow fluid it is already gone so no chance of testing I went way out before popping a hole just incase it was really horrible. I will look up ascities I just briefly looked at the other organs and did not see anything...
Hi,
I had a hen that started to look egg bound about 4 days ago I successfully treated one for this problem a few weeks ago and I did the same for this hen and she did not improve yesterday and today she was very bad so i went ahead and put her out of her misery. During the week she just kept...
Hi,
Ok I am addicted to the color blue I have blue cochins already and this year purchased blue orpington hatching eggs. I hatched several other breeds at the same time so there are some other breeds mixed in with my blue orp chicks my question is do these work like the cochins where I will...
I finally turned my incubator off today I did good overall somewhere between 40-50 chicks, two died in the incubator after hatching one appeared to have something wrong with it the other was very small and looks like he may have just gotten trampled I had three that did not open they have a few...
Well I still have a bunch hatching but it looks like I have one that is not going to make it he fully hatched but his belly is very bloated looking and red I am thinking he did not absorb the yoke properly? I will probably take it out this evening I am trying to let as many as possible hatch...
OK I am getting more excited seeing all the pictures and hearing about all the babies so far I have nothing we candled when we took the turner out and all looked good but so far nothing maybe today. So is there anyone else out there that is hatching basicly now that does not have there brooder...
I did good overall the ones that had so many empties were purchased from another member I am crossing my fingers that the ones left will be enough to give me a pretty good start for blue orpingtons and of course hoping for more hens than roos but you know how that goes
I candled last Tuesday and we actually did pretty good with the exception of my blue orpingtons I had 10 that were empty my other eggs that came in the mail were blue cochins and only had one empty and I was very suprised we put in 6-8 from each of our own breeding pens and I knew my two pens...
Hi,
Turkey eggs are larger than chickens and atleast for the breeds I have seen usually have brown speckles you will definatley be able to tell the difference. They usually start laying the spring after they were hatched not sure if a late fall hatch would also lay we usually do ours in the...
Hi
I put a light in my cochin house about a month ago and they are laying pretty good now but it did take a while they were spring chicks last year and did not lay at all in the fall so they do seem to mature a bit later and I dont know if anyone else who has cochins has this same problem all...
Hi,

Hi,
I have a bunch of eggs ordered already for the breeds I just had to have, but I would love to find some local people that might have some more purebred hatching eggs for sale that I could buy locally instead of having to worry about them in the mail. I am willing to try most any breed...
I ordered cuckoo marans last year from Mcmurry and the eggs are definatley not as dark as I have seen from others. The birds looked nice enough and are good layers I also ended up with 8 roosters and 3 hens the rooster was also extremly aggressive.
I would think it is different from one shelter to the next if it is a no kill shelter I would assume they would be put up for adoption. I am assuming that where she lives roosters are not allowed because unless it is against city policy/law I dont see why animal control would be taking them...
Hi,
Turkeys through the hatcheries are pretty expensive I would try craiglist and see if anyone local will have anything for sale and many farm stores carry chicks/poults in the spring if you ask ahead of time they may even be able to order a certain breed for you.
