I so wish I could take your girls. They'd have a nice life with me, but I don't have the space for another setup. Best of luck with the move and rehoming your girls.

Hey, thanks for asking. He's doing well and has grown into such a handsome boy. At least when he's not covered in his mash.
Him two days ago after lunch, standing on his sister/girlfriend. Pixie is so patient with him. Bless her heart. Any other dog would have eaten him...
Yeah, I tried there as well as Guy's and Tractor Supply. They all keep them outside in the weather. I don't know if the local hardware store carries shavings. I'm considering going to PetSmart and buying the biggest bales I can find.
Hello VTers,
I'm wondering where you are getting your pine shavings? I'm in Lamoille County and am struggling to find dry shavings. The local stores keep their shavings outside so they're often damp when I get them and I have no way for drying them back out before use.
Thanks!
@trumpeting_angel : Great! Thank you! I have so many small critters that wander through my yard, I'd hate to install something too sensitive and wake the neighborhood every three minutes.
@trumpeting_angel : Wow! What a scary experience. I know it was hard winter on wildlife so I was expecting to see more smaller critters - like skunks, raccoons, foxes. I had no idea I'd see a bear, let alone three.
With the alarms, are they sensitive enough that a cat passing through would...
Summer came in like a lion, huh? Man, I love the heat, but the humidity can eat my shorts.
I've had three bears run through my property in the last two weeks. Two on the same day within two hours of each other - in the middle of day when everyone (myself, dog, chickens, cat) were outside.
One...
Think about how you're approaching them...
Are you moving slow and approaching them at their level? So they can see you and anticipate what's going to happen. Or are you moving fast and approaching from above? Like an aerial predator swooping down.
Try hand feeding them so they'll get...
It was a hard winter on wildlife so I understand and I do my best to co-exist. I knew he and other predators are around, and that it was only a matter of time before I slipped up. In this case, I didn't secure the door properly and he got in through the tiniest of spaces. Lesson learned.
It is...
@trumpeting_angel - Thank you for sharing! They are the epitome of cuteness. I remember when my were little they'd dust in the food they scratched out of their dishes.
I raised mine in the bathroom so I could have access to water. When they outgrew the pen, I gave them free run of the...
@trumpeting_angel - Awe! So glad to hear you were able to get your girls. They are so precious and awkward at that age. Would love to see some pics when you can.
Chicken TV is my favorite channel. You're going to have a blast. Have they sorted out how to dust bathe and determined where their...
@trumpeting_angel : Things with the vet were as expected - nothing to be done for his beak. Though, the vet thinks his beak was broken, and not a genetic defect, which means she may have been able to reset it. (Not that I have thousands of dollars for x-rays, surgery and numerous follow-up...
I able to get Hawke in to see Dr. Elizabeth at Essex Veterinary, and the news isn't good.
Hawke as a serious of congenital issues with the most concerning being her heart, which is why she has the fluid build up in her left leg, ankle and toes.
She has absorption issues so no matter how much...
Just wondering what ya'll think may be going on...
Apologies for not retyping.

I'm going to do my best for her. It's going to be tough, and I hope she makes it, but if not, I'll know she had a chance and good life, even if brief.
Yes, I'm going to take her to Essex Veterinary. Drs. Elizabeth and Francois know their fowl, especially complicated cases.
