UPDATE. She perked up as the sun set. She made it quite clear she did not want to be in the house or in a box. Took her out to the coop with her sisters and this morning she was already in the nesting box, back to usual egg business. Yeah!!!
Thanks everyone. Got her dried best I could, on low, and she still tried to crawl away. Looks like her left leg is definitely injured or still cold. I have her in a dry towel here with me.
Found my chicken in the water. She is cold. Shivering. I rinsed her in lukewarm water and have her in the house, wrapped in a towel. What else can or should I do? Temps today were in the 30s ans went up to 50s. Not sure how long she was in the water but for sure several hours.
What is wrong with Red?!!?
I tried to take a video, it won’t allow me to load it. She’s basically gasping for air. Kinda like agonal breathing but she’s still active and alive. Sounds like bronchitis but no discharge from eyes or beak. She’s 5 years old. She has been staying in the coop...
Momma brings the littles into the coop at night. I just thought perhaps I’m not doing my job helping momma raise them. Momma herself was a secret offspring. I guess I’ll just let them be. Thanks!
one of my chickens had her 3 babies in secret. Long story short - she is out and about with her littles and won’t let me anywhere near her, and certainly not within 5 ff of her babies. Momma was already skiddish (born in secret herself). How on earth can I get her to trust me, get those...
It’s her 3rd time being a momma hen. She is in her own spot. Problem is I have a “special” chicken which is always in there with her and even on top of her. This chicken is was attacked by a hawk last year and has been a little “off” ever since. No longer lays eggs but pretends to be broody...
My momma hen left her broody box which has a dozen eggs - she’s been sitting on them for a little over a week. They are stone cold. She sat in a nesting box instead on new eggs.
Is it too late for the other eggs? Help!??
I put her back on the “old” eggs with the new (warm) eggs which I...
Our first Bantam rooster fought off a hawk and I guess lives because I saw it happening and ran to help. He always warned his little flock with sound. The 2nd attack he unfortunately fought to his death. It was pretty gross. He put up a good fight. His son is always on the look out for...
