Could I ( theoretically ) eventually get to a light brown leghorn ( or something similar. Their colorations aren’t exactly similar to the BB red ) by breeding my white leghorn hens with my BB Red OEGB? I know it would likely involve a lot of convoluted, many steps ( and generations ) but would...
Tator Tot likes the big ladies for whatever reason. He has 5 of his own banty girls but he only pays attention to the standard size girls. They literally overlook him most of the time. It’s funny watching him bounce off of them as they look straight ahead like he isn’t even there. Though, my...
Thought someone was getting choked out but it was just Iggy finding his big boy voice. Hopefully he has an actual crow unlike the first leghorn roosters I had…they screamed.
Lol, I’m on mobile so much I forgot what my signature even was. Nobody is in horny jail currently, but I might have to send one of the boys there because he has a favorite pullet.
Yeah, that got me too. I even told them about brown leghorns having sexual dimorphism in a previous email and was told it would be put in the notes for my claim but I still had to wait until he was over 14 weeks old. Like, I had it figured out he was a dude a 4 weeks. Very frustrating to wait an...
I don’t know, I think there’s definitely a distinction between predator savvy & flighty. Most of my chickens are predator savvy but still friendly with me as they know I’m not a threat. Him? He’ll launch himself off the roost — knocking others off with him — just because I turned towards him...
Finally got my refund for Iggy….yeah. He’s so flighty, it’s unreal. You look at him wrong and he’s taking off in the other direction. My white leghorn hens were never that flighty when they were his age.
Lol, yeah, apparently. It’s just a little funny, especially since it’ll apply to breeds like salmon faverolles too which have a more drastic difference.
my leghorns were hatched around the middle of the year ( june 18th ) but 3 of them have already gotten pretty red combs in the past few days
i checked their hackle feathers to make sure i didn’t get any cockerels ( im 90% sure they’re girls. there’s always that doubt haha ). the only one not...
okay, i was wondering. this is my first time with leghorns and my older chickens ( varying breeds ) — now 26 weeks — started laying around 18-22 weeks. i saw where apparently leghorns could lay as early as 16? i’d imagine that’s a rare occurrence
just curious: what was the earliest age you’ve ever had a leghorn pullet lay at? i’ve watched one of my 14 week ( & 5 days ) old pullet dig around in a nesting box for the past few days and i was just wondering. her comb has also gotten pretty red but it’s still on the smaller side
