I wish I had that option, hatcheries are pretty much production birds in my province. You get your reds, you get your whites, you get your BRs and your meats. That's about it. Local breeders are pretty much the only option.
This is Goldie, my GLWx, I know she was part of some Olive Egger breeding project, but she's my absolute favorite out of my current flock. She's absolutely head over heelsnin love with me and I hear, she's always at my side if I'm out in the yard, and always needs a cuddle at the end of the...
Looks like it's been a few days since I've checked in! A warm belated welcome from another Ontarian!
I don't know, it seems fairly seasonal smack dab in the middle of the province.. You know, damp, chilly, grey. All seems about right.
But on a side note, Happy Thanksgiving, everybody! I...
Just a guess, but I'd agree that's a boy just from colouration, but I just wanted to say that he's fabulous! I think my next acquisition is going to be a frizzle show girl! I'm in love! :love
#1&2 look a lot like golden comets to me, I've had a few.
#6 could be EE, I have one identical
Your pretty boy looks very EEish to me too.
As for the others :idunno
I'm thinking that looks a lot like intestinal shed, as long as its not every poop. That's not every poop is it? How often does she drop these? Every poop? Once a day?
Maybe someone will hop in with a second opinion. Let me wrack my brain on which members to tag that might be an expert on the...
Welcome! I'm a wee bit north of you in central Ontario, my chickens do amazingly well in our winters here, with -30c not uncommon. Keep your coop dry and ventilated and youll be golden! If you're really worried, give this article a read...
Are we talking a little smear? Right after laying or just randomly when she poops? There can be some tearing with the first egg or two, so it's not uncommon to see a blood smear on an egg. You could be seeing intestinal lining shed, which sometimes does appear bloody, but it could also be...
What stunning views you have! You've done a great job of keeping your information for future perusing and supplying the rest of us with some stellar eye candy in the process!
Just thought I'd share a picture of my new girl, Sofa (named as such because she always looked like a ball of pet fur dragged out from under my couch as a chick), now that she isn't in a sorry state of chick feathering.
Disclaimer: That is not an outer security wall behind her but a movable...
It was probably silly of me to assume, but I was assuming if someone was looking for boredom busters their birds are locked in a run, and not a huge one. Small run + chickens = no greens left + occasional cabbage + balanced feed = good thing. My father would be appalled, I don't know how many...
