Unfortunately it died this afternoon. I have had the worst luck with chicks this year.
We are just grateful that we have four healthy fluffy nuggets. This was the first year we had a broody hen, and I didn't want to stop a hen for hatching some babies.
No we don't usually hatch chicks, we just had a mama go broody and I didn't want her stop her from doing what is natural. I put the baby back under the mama.
Broody hen hatched out babies this week, this one just started pipping this morning. It is way to early for it to be coming out, but the shell really broke.
Is this a lost cause, or is there anything I can do to fix it??
I did not peel any shell back, I don’t know what exactly happened. Mama...
I wasn't set on this coop, but it is still an option. We can always tweak what we don't like.
The chickens still go into the run during the winter. I put some large tree branches, and after Christmas they get our tree, and perch all day. They love it, they really love the Christmas tree. The...
Last year we had the runs separated, so during the day we would take the chicks outside, put them in one side, and the other chickens would notice them when they lay eggs. We would bring them inside at night.
By the time the 12 weeks went by, and introduced them, they were still doing the...
I can add pictures but unsure the dimensions. I have raised chickens in the coop for about 4 years, and haven’t had any issues. 3 nesting boxes, two roosting bars. They only go in there to sleep and to lay.
I would prefer a separate nursery. I don’t introduce the chicks until about 12 weeks...
I live in the Midwest, cold winters.
i just need to figure out what I want to do, if I want to add an additional coop, or just one big coop. But then I need a coop for in between leaving the brooder and being introduced to the flock.
We currently have a coop that holds 14 chickens. The other coop would hold the 10. The run size doesn’t matter much, as we can always add on.
I just need a separate coop for the “nursery coop” and then a coop to house half of them or all of them. As we already have the one.
my chickens are free...
We are in the same predicament. We need a bigger coop, and it seems like there are definitely many options, but not sure the cheapest you can go.
Regardless if you build one or if you buy one, I have yet to see anything cheaper than $500. Materials can get just as costly as buying something.
I...
I keep going back and forth with what I want to do. The old coop was there when we bought the place and we almost need to replace that one too. I don’t want something to nice, because chickens poop on everything 😆.
I was thinking about buying a wood shed from Home Depot and then updating it to...
I currently have 12 hens for 2 roosters. The one rooster is going on 1 in may.
Chick days got me good this year, but it always does, so no surprise 😆. I am working on a layout idea though. I need some help, and chicken people to run my ideas by!
I want to order a chicken coop from Tractor...
