I seem to have an EE bantam cockerel, hatched May 15th, who's this color. He came from Cackle with five others: two black, dark blue, splash, and a pale silver (splash) cockerel.
Anyway, this first cockerel is beautiful, and i have no idea about his color inheritance.

Just saw a news release about some 'animal rights' folks breaking into a mink farm and 'liberating' around 40,000 domestic milk! Near Ft. Wayne, and not a good story. These poor critters will be hungry, and hunting, and the survivors will be happy to get our poultry.

I wanted to add another warning about this plant, now invading places that include Michigan, Ohio, and who knows where else.
The best article I've seen so far, with lots of pictures and advice, is bygl.osu.edu/index.php/node/1996
Please look it up, or just google this plant, before you get in...
I just got a notice that there's a variant of Rabbit Hemorragic Disease in the SW USA. This is a fatal nasty disease of bunnies, and you folks with rabbits, especially out there, need to read up on it ASAP, to protect your animals, and everyone else's.

Help! I use the Sure-Jell in the pink boxes, the low sugar variety, and it's GONE from all the stores here near Lansing, Mich.. Amazon has it, for $7 or $8 per box, and that's not reasonable. Anyone know what's going on? Guess I'll freeze the fruit and do jam later...

I posted on the EE bantam thread, and now here i am with a chick from Cackle that has this leg color. he's handsome anyway, and I'd like help in deciding how this leg color in particular might play out. My tiny group of EE bantams has slate legs, and shades of gray feathering, and it appeals...
Having advertisements on the top and sides are enough! Now they pop up in the center of the screen?!!! They cover parts of the forum and are VERY irritating!

This is a developing story, and I'm concerned that it won't turn out well.
My 2019 Easter Egger rooster, who's never shown any human aggressive tendencies, seems to be changing recently. He's now 'accidently' following me, getting closer, and when I turn to look at him, he looks away and wander...
Yet another 'who done it?'
Yesterday, sometime between 11am and 3:30pm, one of our bantam pullets was killed and partially eaten, by someone.
She was about 20 ft. away from the coop, under mature spruces. Her neck was eaten down to the bones, and her abdomen opened and partially eaten. She...
It occurred to me today, looking at the two Chantie hens who are half bald and miserable, with feather starts, but nothing grown out yet, that I don't remember a rooster ever doing this sort of 'hard molt'. Ever.
Any comments?

This spring I bought the Premier 16" brooder plate, set it up, and things seemed okay. Some chicks died the night after they arrived, but I thought shipping stress, so not good but it happens. After the first three days, everyone did fine.
The end of August I got it back out for fewer chicks...
I didn't want to continue in the 'My Horse Training Adventures' thread, so here's my mare's bloodlines.
Sire is Tanzeln, by Enrico Caruso, who has sired international horses. he dam is by Amethyst, who evented to 4star level at the Kentucky Rolex, and out of an approved Tb mare who raced four...
This is a sad story, that I didn't want to post, but here it is anyway.
I've had many chicks shipped here, from several hatcheries over the years, with good results. my worst previous experience was 10% deaths over about ten days from a different hatchery several years ago.
This is my third...
It's a fun show to visit, this year November 3d and 4th. There's a website, and there are lots of birds exhibited every year. this year there should be more waterfowl and Wyandottes than usual, with supported entries from those clubs.
Birch Run also has a nice outlet mall, places to eat, and...
I was very sad to see the news report today; a six year old boy died of rabies in Florida, after an encounter with a bat. So sad, and a reminder to everyone that it's wise to be careful out there!
He didn't get vaccinated after exposure, and once symptoms develop, it's too late.
We all need to...
Again today, starting in the Feeding section, I get this 'security' message: Security Alert The identity of this web site or the integrity of this connection cannot be verified. The name on the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the site. I 'x' it out two or...
Several years ago, I decided it would be nice to insulate my coop walls and roof. It's a wooden building, on an old concrete foundation. We used fiberglass batting, covered with 3/8" fiberboard. Lovely! Until this winter, when mice moved into the walls. Yucky, but manageable, I thought...
So that's my question. I wear the disposable N95 masks from the paint department, as an effective product. I have never bought and tried everything out there, and in general, the respirators I've worn have not been fun to wear. Anyone have opinions and a least difficult but effective dust...
