A lot has happened since my last post! We had a little issue with the town we live in. The person in charge of animal control / animal ordinances was very lax. It is a slightly more rural suburban town. Unfortunately that gentleman passed and a new person was placed in charge who were enforcing...
No sweat on me. My wife desperately wanted a lavender and only one hatched. Figures to be a roo. But I did grab two lavendar colored eggers that are pullets so we make due. Now we need to decide who will be the roo to keep.
First time with these breeds. They are approximately 8-10 weeks old. Any thoughts on gender? I’ve had more practice with my wife’s silkies but my guess is 2 pullets and 1 roo
Yeah we have quite a few silkies and it is very true with the gender ID. I just guessing based on stature, the slight copper feathers in the shoulder area and the comb. Still need to catch the crow in the act. This coop has 9 year old hens (barnyard mixes) and 3 silkies. The other two silkies...
TLDR: I am pretty positive that this is a cockerel
I was hearing two crows and I rehomed a roo on the guise that I swear this guy is the other crower. My wife hasn't heard it because its not happening once I let them out of the coop. Still on the fairly young side.
We did that first and it just pulled far away. Basically straight out. We now have the brace on and its been a day and it doesn't seem to be improving, not sure. Not sure how much time it takes. Just getting nervous.
We have a 10 day old chicks and within the second half of those 10 days, little guy was showing signs of some very bad leg formations. They were a chick that struggled to hatch and well past hatching day the chick was still in there and unable to get out. My wife slowly and carefully attempted...
Spike is a EDIT 4 month old Silkie, their fur has always been fairly wild and we believe they are frizzle. My wife is in the camp that it is not a rooster. I believe they are a rooster. Our rooster Red is very protective of Spike which is why my wife feels its a hen, but the growth on the...
TBH we are new to the incubating and hatching part of the cycle. We got our first barn yard breeds from our local feed store and then the wife added silkies to the mix. Red, we got from person that had Silkie and Polish mixes so we assume thats what he is.
After hatching a run split between silkies and ayem cemani from a local breeder, we collected some eggs to incubate from our collection. We have Easter eggers, RIR, Buff O, and Barred Rock hens. We also have silkies and show girls including the pair I will post. Anyone have experience breeding...
