In Alabama, chickens do not need any added heat once they have their feathers, even in the winter. They do however need plenty of ventilation, both summer and winter.

I decrease the temp. 5 deg. each week until they are ready to go outside. 85 deg. would be about right for 3 week old chicks. If you give them a heat lamp and plenty of room they will find their comfort zone.
