It’s a large metal trough brooder that usually works well. We are using champion pine shavings which we have always used. Our lime bag said garden lime on it, and we use it lots with all of our chickens in their bedding to absorb, I will read on that right now.
The only thing we could thing of is 3 days ago we added some lime and shavings which made a little dust(but we Have always done that...from now on we will take them out for that part just in case) or maybe we added a splash too much ACV but could that hurt them?? Ugh:barnie:hit:th:he:bow:mad:
We bought 4 chicks at about 1 week old, and 2 red bourbon turkey chicks around the same age. They were all about the same size, and were doing great together. We (thought) we had been doing really well with this batch. It was a nice small batch, we have kept the bedding clean, they’ve had water...
What should we do for this poor girl? We now have her separated with acv in her water, normal pellets & some scratch. it almost feels like an egg Is stuck or something. there is a big saggy thing hanging down below the bone that goes down her chest/stomach, it is hard.
Hey, quick update On Sheera...she is doing GREAT! She is such a good girl, and with training is getting better everyday. Thanks every for all the tips you gave❤️
Pic to come!
I know this is an older thread...but we have chicks now, 4 chicken chicks, and 2 turkey chicks, we are about to get a peachick too. We use sand in the big chicken barn, and the pellet bedding in the horse barn. The pellet bedding is a great idea for the chicks, but do they try to eat it? And do...
Got it, yes we spend a lot of time training her and being with her. As for tethering her to us, she lives outside 24/7 with a good shed to go in for protection, and when she is with the chickens rolls in poop. We’ve read about not petting them or loving on them to much, as they might not want to...
Our LGD puppy is in or garden, which has a 6 ft chainlink fence around it, and nothing growing in it, and it has a nice size shed in it for Sheera(the lgd). The chickens pen runs all the way around the garden, and the have their barn too...we let Sheera out to mingle with the chickens while we...
The sweeter heater somebody recommended is really neat, we just looked it up. Thank you so so much everybody for your responses and time. We really appreciate them and all your time, and think we will age a very successful chick year now. Thanks again.

We are looking for the easiest way you have found to raise chicks besides using a hen. We have raised them for six years now, and tried many different methods of heating, and bedding. Some of them have worked ok, and some of them have killed the chicks. We don’t want to mess up again this year...
I see your profile thing says “I want a puppy”. I would highly recommend an aussiedoodle. They don’t shed at all, the are extremely intelligent and fast learners, and seem to do great with livestock. Ours has never chewed up anything he wasn’t supposed to.
