Was finally cleaning out the hatcher to move the eggs due this upcoming weekend into lockdown, and one of the eggs peeped at me! Little necked neck was glued in the shell but very alive! Got it out and gave it a bath will move it to the brooder in the morning.... that is a first for me one...
so we ended up with 4 quail and 12 chicks??? funny thing is I have been noticing more buff colored ones in these last couple hatches... i put it off as the buff coming from the red broiler mamas.... was looking last night and some have feathered feet!!! ok so the bantam buff brahma was taking...
we had a little black one running around in the incubator this morn.... hubby looks at me and asks if there is a live one in there and should I take care of it before I leave for work??? lol
Yes dear
My DH has given up on getting me to quit or even slow down the hatching..... he does point out the growing feedbill in mounting frustration but then shakes his head and wanders off.... i may need to butcher a bunch soon.... al cx of course
Ok so I couldn't get a good pic... managed to get a pic of the floor, my hand the lid and ceiling but this was as good as I could do with the Silver turkey poult.... guess I was mistaken on what pen the egg was from. Nice looking blue slate. Still have quail and chickens due Halloween
so with barred black and slate parents where did all these funny colored ones come from(including the royal palm that hatched from my eggs)???
lol
you are not the only one who cant stop laughing...
My Daughter Loves her blacks.
I love a little variety
life is good!
ummmmm. oh purpose or cuz I cant decide???
lol the PLan is to have 2 black pens with 6 hens and a tom each, a slate pen with a tom and 4 hens and a chocolate pen with 4 hens and a tom.... now WHY is there 7 and 9 hens in the black pens and 7 hens in the chocolate( some the wrong colors) and WHAT...
with any luck this will be a black from the broad breasted black and my DD's big black tom.... if nothing else it will be from her project pen and totally a win!
all my birchen marans eggs died.... I guess it was not a great sign that I could SEE into them to see that they were dead at this stage???
oh well still have some turkey, barnyard mix and quail going for halloween!
Hatching is Very addictive! I currently have over 100 eggs in different stages of incubation. Turkey, duck and chicken with the first batch of quail to go in tomorrow.
I started hatching in September 2017 with a cheap Chinese knockoff incubator that was a nightmare and have since graduated to...
very similar to the one I use, I LOVE that it tracks every 10 mins. its important to know if there are any big spikes or dips.... also the humidity changes
