I heard someone refer to a pied peacock as 40-60 and another as 10-90? What does that mean? I assume blue to white ratio, but which is which? Is 40 the blue, or the white? Thanks in advance.
Two years ago I bought this pair of young adult smooth-breasted Sebastopol geese. They were sold to me as young male and female, but I'm beginning wonder if they're two males. I've vent sexed them and think I did see male apparatus on both, but am not quite sure. Though they hang around...
I have a tom turkey who is showing similar symptoms to chickens I've seen with mycoplasma galliseptum. Can turkeys get this too? Looks like his nose is runny, he's got his head pulled in a little, and his head looks a little swollen (not much). He's still walking about and eating normally...
These two were sold to me as hens, based on a ring on a string test done as I watched. Curiously enough, the sellers say they interpret things the exact opposite way of what most people do. I knew them a little before, but I'm hoping they weren't just trying to get rid of toms (I wanted hens)...
We have 2 turkey poults, about 3 months old, that are in pen in the barn. We also have a young adult jake (male turkey) who free ranges 24/7. He does not leave our farm. Are the poults old enough to start free ranging with Felix yet, or should we wait till they're bigger? Felix knows...
I have a peahen sitting on 5 eggs in our Quonset. This is her second nest. Her first got destroyed by who-knows-what. I was able to salvage 2 of the eggs from that nest, and now she's built this new nest in a much safer location that she chose. She's been on it for about a week and a half...
So I've got 3 peafowl eggs in the incy (put in at different times). The oldest one hatched successfully last night all by itself (no helpout from me). It didn't peep any that I could hear while it was in the shell (as my chicken chicks do), but it pipped and then zipped itself all the way out...
I had 2 peachick eggs under a chicken hen. Our peahen's nest got destroyed and these 2 were the only ones not broken, so I moved the eggs to under a chicken hen. Well the chicken hen decided she wasn't broody anymore, so in the incubator they went.
Admittedly I have kept no records other...
About a month ago we adopted an adult broad-breasted bronze turkey. They told me she was a year old, but I suspect she is older as she looks pretty gnarly. She gets around pretty slowly, though now that she was out on the farmyard, she made the rounds.
At any rate, she is extremely aggressive...
Hello, I'm new to geese, and am hoping for your help.
I have two (I think) brown Chinese goslings (pictured). I got them at an auction. These are my first baby geese. We also have 3 adult geese (1 Chinese brown gander and a mated pair of Toulouse) that I got earlier this year. The Toulouse...
Today I found a peafowl egg in my husband's shop. We have several peafowl, but I don't know how old this egg is - from yesterday, last week, or last year. It was not warm, so I know it hasn't been sat on recently. I have a broody chicken I can put this under. Can I float the egg for just a...
We adopted this turkey a few days ago from a rescue organization. This is our first turkey. They told us it was a young male. I am wondering if you think this is really a tom as they said it was.
They said it was an escapee from a local farm, and had found 2 other wild turkeys for buddies...
I have 32 eggs in the incy. Today's hatch day, if I got my calendar right. It's almost 11 PM and only 1 chick has hatched. That one went from pip to hatch in 1 hour and is very vigorous. I have about 10 more pipped. But some of the pipped eggs have the pip facing downward, almost to the...
Hi everyone, I seem to have caught the goose bug and so I bought a goose yesterday. I wanted 2-3 geese to help keep weeds down, keep our chickens protected, and hopefully not be seen by our 2 puppies as something to eat.
This is Charlie! The man said he was a brown Chinese, but someone told...
This is our second year with peafowl, and we are loving them! The photo shows our peahen with her three babies. On Day 8, I put a chicken egg in her nest when she was off getting food/water so the chicken chick is "hers" too. This chicken pullet has for the past month spent her nights in the...
We have a flock of banties, and one of the roos who's about 3 months old has developed a really gross-looking comb and face. I've looked in Storey's book and on the 'net and can't find anything like this. Does anyone know what it is? It's so ugly. He's the only one that has it so I assume...
We had 4 peachicks we hatched in an incubator. They are 1 1/2 weeks old. Today one died. The others have become SO thin, and weak. They're in a stock tank brooder with a heat lamp over one side of the tank. Temp at ground level is 95-97 and the tank is 4' round so they can get away from the...
