Looks like an EE but with feathery feet?

Thanks everyone for the input. My friend who hatched it said it was a she but I don't have any other roosters so if its a he after all, I'll see how it goes. The other egg hatched a completely white bird but it could be from a different hen for all we know. Pretty much the most cuddly bird...

Looks like an EE but with feathery feet?

So my friend gave me this little thing hatched from some eggs a friend gave her. Not sure what it is. It is difficult to see, but the yellow feet have a line of feathering (a single line) going in towards the inner toe. A black and white head, something a few of my EEs have, but the...

    Good news & Bad news

Also I should say I do feed them vegetables, occasional human foods and I throw oyster shell in with their food and on the ground. I also treat the inside of the coop with DE.

    Good news & Bad news

I don't post here much, but I do come here a lot when I have an inquiry and it is usually taken care of through the forums without the need to post. So for that I say, "Thank you," to everyone who has helped me with my flock ;) A good news story- A long long time ago I posted that one of my...

    Scaly Mites turned deadly... ?

I cleaned her up, sprayed her legs entirely with blue kote and put her in the "chicken tractor" (a portable but not totally predator proof enclosure). I'll probably drag the tractor somewhere less out in the open and put a house in it, see if she heals up a bit. She is a good layer and one "I...

    Scaly Mites turned deadly... ?

One of my hens (I got most of them together) has always had raised, abnormal scales on her feet. I bathed her, didn't do anything, I put vitamin supplements in their water and all that. I thought of trying a vegetable oil dip. I clean their coop more than most people. The rest look fine which is...

    Cumberland, MD - Bantam Roo

Fertile, interested in the well being of his girls and I've seen no signs of injury. Beautiful boy, but I have no need for him. No clue on the breed but he looks like a red old english, I suppose. Just giving him a chance :) You would have to pick him up locally or I could possibly deliver to...

Will a concrete run (use to be dog pen) work?

My 2 cents... Concrete: Make sure you have easy access with a hose, inside and out. Concrete is a pain to clean. It is probably not the best for their feets and downright bad for Duck feet. But you work with what you've got! In the Winter I mostly let the bedding and poop accumulate a solid...

    What is DE?

I'd ask the people you're buying it from My hens absolutely love taking dust baths in that stuff. They really get into it, legs flopping everywhere, feathers all undone, rolling around like a cat on a carpet. Its a healthy bath for them and good fun.

    New hens coughing, raspy

Picked up a few hens (and the most adorable little bannie roo) from a friend on Saturday and a couple in the bunch sound a little... Gurgly. I mean real raspy when they breath, they're all active but the roo and some of the girls sound not-so-good. Not gonna wait this out, I have a TSC and a...

Opinions on dark brown egg layers?

I'm still so torn!! I only want 2-3 chickens and my duck to be honest. The coop is tall but not very large (a little over 6x6 on the interior and the outside run is like 6x12). I know chickens sleep UP but I still don't want to overcrowd. Plus I only have one person who buys my unused eggs from me

Opinions on dark brown egg layers?

Now that my coop is finished I get to start thinking about what birds I want to get. I currently have a pekin duck of questionable gender and a leghorn hen. I love the dark brown eggs of marans but I have also heard they don't lay as often... I really don't know what is the best breed. When it...
