I have a BR hen that stands like she is eggbound, but I have given her the whole spa treatment, and it hasn't helped. Plus, I don't feel an egg in there. Her abdomen seems swollen, but it's soft. Also, I don't think she had started laying again, yet.
Right now, she is in a kennel crate in a...
Thank you, Corinne, I appreciate that!
I have other pips, now, and hear cheeping. Ordinarily, that would make me very happy, because up until now, I've not had problems after that point. Now I'm nervous. :(
I've not had this problem before...I'm guessing it's high humidity, but it's hatch day and I don't have time to read all the possible threads.
Here is what has happened so far:
Yesterday afternoon (day 20), one egg pipped. Seems good, no worries. By the time I went to bed, 2 pipped, some...
I have four Favs in my GP, and love them for their friendly, hang-out-with-you personalities. They are my husband's favorites, because they always come "help" him whenever he has something to work on in the chicken coop/yard. They stand around at his feet supervising and offering advice.
I would...
Bought my Wellsummers from Lenster here on BYC...I will definitely be getting more at some point. They have been such a joy, and their eggs are literally remarkable. People always comment on their size and color when they buy eggs.
The hens are very friendly, although they don't love being...
I answered based on inside space, which is 4-6 depending on which coop. But the outside space is at least 25...some get to free range, and some have a fenced 1/4-1/2 acre.
The date doesn't work out well for me...my husband's daughter is getting married that week, so we're kind of busy with all that. :(
I could probably take a couple up to the Portland area sometime in the next couple of weeks, if you would like to meet me somewhere around there?
These are from Jean Ribbeck's stock (Pips&Peeps), and really are handsome guys. They are @ 7-8 mos old. I run a boarding kennel, and get several compliments a day on the Wheaten roos. But, the best thing about them is their temperament! They are wonderful boys! They take good care of their...
Silver Ameraucana roo - Pips&Peeps stock - 2 yrs old
Thought I wanted to breed Silvers, but decided on Wheatens. He's not the sweetest rooster in the world, probably shouldn't be around small children, but he isn't mean. He will rush your legs, but if you carry a stick or a water nozzle he...

Where'd his butt go??
Lol - at the time, the girls were keeping him humble. They nipped out all his tailfeathers. It's actually growing back, now. I will have current pics in the auction.
Anyone interested in a Silver Ameraucana roo?
He is @ 2 years old from Jean's stock.
I will list him in the auction as soon as they let things be listed again.
I'm sure this has probably been addressed, but I haven't read the whole thread...and I'm not sure I will ever have that much time.
I have 3 Barnevelder chickens - I really want to add to that with some excellent quality Barnies. I would love suggestions on where to go/whom to buy from. I like...
You have very pretty birds! I have come back several times and almost bid...but I have 2 coops and 2 breeds. I really shouldn't mix things up right now. Someday...
It MAY have been a fox...but it sounds kinda like it could have been a dog to me. I can't imagine a fox not finishing the job and taking her with him. If it had enough time to remove that many feathers...it seems like it could have had time to snag her and run. Whereas a dog is just in it mainly...
I am so sorry! I can't even imagine the heartbreak. Give yourself a little time & you should try again. When you do, I would switch over to hardware mesh...it's stronger than chicken wire.
Again...I am so sorry for your sad loss.

Thank you! Are ee's a friendly and well laying bird? I am already in love with my babies!
I have EEs and pure Wheaten Ameraucanas...both types lay well, both are very sweet and friendly...depending on how much time has been spent with them. I think you will be very happy with yours.
