I use zip ties just make sure you watch them like all leg bands
I heard that too but a friend marked one of theirs in red and had no problems so I'm not sure. I stay on the safe side and don't use them though.
We went by TSC one day to get some feed and saw this little hamster toy on sale. It is a kabob type thing that hangs from the ceiling with a shiny bell on the end. They love it and ring it all the time. My ladies also like to run through tubes and burrow in leaves. The best entertainment you can...
In April, we hatched some 'quarantine quail' (coturnix) and fell in love with them. Now, we want to hatch buttons (maybe in the spring), but had a few questions. I won't house them with the coturnix because I hear there's quite a size difference (unless that is okay). If there is anything...
It could have been dislocated too (idk I am not a vet haha). When he would move his wing the tip area would hang down. Maybe that was intentional but I am just glad he is better!
He(/she???) is all right now! Quick recovery! His(her???) bruise under his wing is already gone! Since he(/she???) had to deal with me so much looking under his(/her???) wing, he/she is really calm. He/she might be my favorite! Dont tell the others! 🤫
The same thing happened to 3 of my girls. Our male is white and only wanted to mate with the white girls. They were raised together, brown and white, but he still had his favorites.
While we were on vacation, he caused chaos and scalped all 3 of them. Thankfully, a family friend was checking...
Sounds about right. Depending on whether you count the day they go in as day 1 or day 0 they hatch on day 18 or day 17. I use hatchabatch (an app) and it counts the day they go in as day 1 I think.
I was just thinking that maybe you could brood them in their enclosure. I have never ground raised before but if you set up an auto waterer and feeder they wouldnt see you as much. I do agree with nabiki though. If you are going to collect eggs they will be scared. I've heard of people who have...
Very neat idea! How cold is it where you are? Is it possible to just put a heat lamp out there and get them at an age where they can mostly take care of themselves? :pop
When you gently feel around the vent, can you feel an egg? Is this coturnix or button? This is how my egg bound girl acted, I am not an expert though. I hope she feels better. :hugs
So this morning when I checked on him he was doing great. I checked on his wing and there is minor bruising and swelling, so that might be bad. I taped it up with some tape meant for skin, I just hope it will stay on all day. He was running and catching a little spider that got in the brooder...
The skin isn't broken, so I hope I dont have to worry about infections. Can it get infected when the skin isn't broken? Also, how do I keep him immobilized?
Thank you for that. I just have them as pets so I will not eat him if I cull, also he is very tiny and would just be like eating a single...
I dont know honestly. I am thinking that he got stuck between a flower pot and the wall and broke it that way. I have never culled before so I dont know how to. I removed the pot to prevent future possible injuries.
Our current male is super chill- the reason why we chose him over the other...
That is unfortunate. I cant take him to a vet but he doesnt appear to be in pain unless I move or touch the underside of his wing. Should I separate until he heals? There are only 3 others in the brooder with him and he cries for them if hes not with me.
Is there a way to make a sling for him...
When I was checking on the babies this morning, Toaster was acting off so I picked him up. When I looked closer he had a broken wing. How do I help him?
