Where did you get them from? The first ones I got had some non standard colors, crossed beaks, and although I had a few sweet ones, most were pretty snarky, but no bloodshed.
The Reds I have from both Dick Horstman and Rudy Troxel are all mellow and good tempered, so maybe it is the line, or...
... I just thought you guys were ignoring me (lol).
Alaskan, there was a woman who goes by Mrs. AK-Bird-Brain who was raising SC SGD's in
Kenai Peninsula, Alaska. I think she got out of keeping chickens due to work schedule/travel... But still might be an interesting resource...
Well said dalalune. We may not yet be seeing the full benefit of membership yet, but I am very appreciative of Jim Parker's efforts on behalf of the breed, and I will continue to pay my dues willingly, encourage others to join, and look forward to watching it grow and flourish.
Congrats
I got reds from him last year. All arrived in good shape. I have his SGD eggs in the bator right now. Hoping I get something to hatch in spite of the PO. They've been a little rough on everyone the last few weeks from the posts I'm seeing.
Congrats :)

Actually, I have enjoyed lurking along with this conversation... On the one hand, I have no interest in trying to breed Blue laced Red Polkadotted Dorkings (lol) since they are not in the SOP (or existence for that matter, I'm jut being silly :D) but I am (against very good advice) planning on...

Ok, the feeder is neat and everything, but I wa t to know how he got that chicken to stand on that scale! Lol.
I've seen something like this before, but I couldn't quite tell how it was put together... This one's a bit easier to see. I have big fat Dorkings and Cream Legbars, so this might be perfect since I can set the mechanism a little on the heavy side to keep the rabbits out, that thanks to my all...
Ok, so I've figured out my feed bill would be about 60% less, if I wasn't feeding every squirrel and rabbit for miles around. I free range in shifts, and some of my pens are left over from the previous owner, and I have tried all sorts of purchased, and DIY feeders, but no luck. The newest DIY...
Lol! I have a "Dorky Egger" from year before last year's incubator testing. Great hen, smart, hardy, good tempered bird that lays a big green egg.
Like you, I don't have any breeds that one could confuse any mixed offspring as being pure Dorking, but I've dumbed it down even further :) The...
FYI- My adventures with incubators has included a Repti-Pro. I had a terrible time keeping the humidity up to the 45-55 percent, but successfully hatched 7 of 9 shipped Blue Guinea eggs. Had another good-ish hatch with low 30's humidity, but when I figured out how to get "proper" humidity, my...
