    sick peacock-need input..

My 4 yo IB has not looked "right" for several days now. Today he refused his favorite treat-cat food. Now I know he is sick. He is lethargic, wings drooping, back feathers fluffed up( ?- hard to judge if this is a symptom as he is molting and the area is full of blood feathers and new growth)...

3 wk old chick suddenly struggling for air.

The only thing I can help with is ACV. Dose is one TBSP per gallon of water. I guess I would just keep trying to get her to eat a little chick feed, moistened, but more importantly get water into her.

I just discovered a new nest of eggs - can I still eat them after 7-10 days outside?

I don't really know the answer to that. With that kind of heat, I would be leary. I would probably crack one open and give it the look and smell test. Can't miss a bad one that way!

Taking apart Pallets is Hard Work

Trust me, you are no wimp. I've had young, strong men try to disassemble them- without much more luck than me. And I'm a middle....pushing senior aged woman and I do have experience with power tools. Trouble I have with them is, I'm not very big! I have no idea how those u-tube ppl do it. Unless...

    A Turkey mystery...

Hi. Hoping to get some input on a blue slate poult that has some odd behaviors and is getting worse. I'm going to give the entire timeline of "Turkel the house turkey". I got her with 2 others at a poultry swap June 8. They were about a week old at that time. Within a week, under heat and in...

wood bees?? some kind of bees.

It would be great if you could get a picture of these bugs. I'm wondering if they are "sweat bees" which are really not bees but flys that are colored yellow and black like bees. PPl usually see these when they are tiny. I have seen them as adults and they can get very large- bigger then a bee...

    A little fun- Chicken math!

LOL. You can't have roosters but wait until you go to a few chicken swaps after one of your hens decides to go broody! Lots of ppl have eggs for sale- don't need a roo!

    Help! Only one chick!

Update; my little fuzzy stayed unconsolable unless I was holding her sooooo, my son suggested putting her with the brooding banty. Hummmm, So around 10 pm I was out in the front yard scrubbing my extra large dog crate out and returning it to my bedroom. I brought Broody in, nest box (med dog...

    Help! Only one chick!

Thanks for the ideas posted. I have a banty hen and a turkey brooding right now. About a month ago I had a cute little fluffy chick hatch. I decided to let it with the hen to see what happened. Later that day the chick had disappeared, a small piece of fluff was all I found. I felt really bad...

    A little fun- Chicken math!

Chicken math- that's where you start with 6 chickens just for some fresh eggs and end up with 20 or 30 or more because you want to try different breeds or just because they looked neat( I have a pair of Polish because of that!). Next is the time factor. Checking on them for "just a few minutes"...

Not sure what breeds these are?

Too small and young to tell. Many breeds of chicks look the same. They change as they grow.

how often do you clean your coop and run

I clean my coop completely 2x a yr.- spring and fall. I spot clean some areas as they need it if there is a poop buildup or too much dust. I use pine shavings, they seem to be the easiest to keep up with and cause the least amount of problems for the chickens. I have also cleaned an totally...

Why Keep The Coop Off Of The Ground?

Raised coops also provide some( maybe not much) added protection against predators and gives the flock a cool shaded place to hang out on hot days.

    Bugs on my chickens

Probably lice or feather mites. Not a problem on slaughtered chickens, however, the live ones will appreciate getting rid of them. I dust my chickens with Diatomatous Earth or DE. It is a natural product the kills all kinds of bugs. Google it to read more. Get only food grade DE. You can also...

Baby chicks at different ages in the same coop

As long as they are all healthy, and unless the Buff starts actually hurting the little one, I wouldn't worry about it.

My bedroom has turned into a chicken hospital. More and more are getting sick...

Thanks. I will try to find some tomorrow. I've done some research and the best guess I can come up with is a virus. They are all exhibiting some symptoms but not all of everything or anything, Checked the flock for the nite and brou7ght another one in. .
