    Peacock terminology

What do you call a peacock strut? I tried looking it up, but the subject is apparently very common regarding men, and that's just awkward. The sticky post "Behavior" section is still in construction and incomplete since 2013. Thank you.

    Utilizing the Chicken Yard

Is it possible to grow grain in the chicken yard, or will the chickens eat it? I was thinking about utilizing as much of my property as possible. I have 3 and a half acres. A third of that is the chicken yard, letting them free range during part of the day. I was hoping they would help weed and...

    NPIP Certified in AR?

I am in Arkansas, and I want to be NPIP certified. I have some very nice Ameraucanas from a very reputable breeder, and I was told that to enter shows it would be easier to get certified rather than having every bird tested at every show. I got on to the NPIP website, but I cannot figure out...

    Meyer Hatchery vs. McMurray Hatchery

I went with both hatcheries this year. I ordered ducks and geese from McMurray and a bunch of chicks. So far, we have been going well with both. I lost a duckling a couple days after I got them. She had some kind of growth on her neck. We first thought she was just eating a lot, but it...

    True Wheaten Ameraucanas

I'm looking for Wheaten Ameraucana breeders for Spring. I would prefer day old chicks to shipping eggs, sexed if at all possible, but not required. If you are a breeder, or know someone who is good, I would really appreciate it. I have blue Ameraucanas and love them, and I would like to add...

    The Olive-Egger thread!

I have a 2nd gen OE that looks very similar to yours. She has a crested like yours does, but her comb isn't nearly as prominent.

    Meyer Hatchery vs. McMurray Hatchery

Thank you for sharing your experience, though I am sorry for what happened. I think it was really great of them to try and replace your order, but the orders are usually set months in advance (at least the most sought after breeds are, like Olive Eggers and Spitshauben, for example). I bet they...

How often do your hens go broody?

I ended up having a pullet and a cockerel. I sold the boy since I have so many roosters already, but I'll see if I can find a picture of him. This is his sister. I had a good hatch from the Phoenix eggs too. There were 4 chicks. I sold one, but I have the white one and two reds. I can see...

Gooey, runny eye on baby chick??

I just hatched 20 chicks, and one seems to be having the same problem yours does with the gooey eye. It's still eating, drinking, and pooping, so I cleaned it's eye to see if it helps. I'm planning on using the tea bag method for it. :)
