UPDATE: The bones are not broken. It seems as though the shoulder joint has been dislocated. She cannot move the wing and it twists as if just hanging by skin. Right now it is immobilized but I dont see how this will help her in the long run. Can I remove the entire wing?
I work at a feed store and we received a day old chick with a broken wing (she is now about a week old). The guys set it back for me b/c I nurse most of the sick ones that we get back to health, but I have never nursed with a broken wing before.
Any information you can give me would be...
Susie's Green Acre
Chicken Tractor
I am hoping that I do a better job taking pictures of my chicken tractor so that someone can replicate it if they want.
The origional plan was to put the coop next to the garden and then fence parts of the garden so I could let them weed and debug it for me...
Susie's Green Acre
Chicken Coop
Here is our coop after several weeks of after work work. The coop is 8 by 4 and the yard is 12 by 12. Right now it houses 2 Golden Comets and 4 Araucanas (which I think are truly EE's). Our dogs pen is to the right of the chickens run. Her name is Sam.
We...
Susie's Green Acre
My name is Susanne and I live on 1.25 acres which my family affectionately calls "Susie's Green Acre". I would love to have mini cows and goats and ducks but the homeowners association might have something to say about them. They have been nice enough to let my chickens pass...
1) What type of bird , age and weight.
Silkie, about three weeks old. She is half the size of the buff silkie that I got at the same time.
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
Her area around the vent is greatly extended. Her vent is open and she is constantly trying to poop. I have been...
I have 4 peking ducklings that are 2 weeks old. Three are huge (maybe 4 times the size from when I got them) but one is half the size of the others. She (I am hoping) is keeping her head tucked back into her body and is not eating and drinking as vigorously as the other three. She also does...
I had to do this to one of my EE hens. She also lost all of the feathers that I trimmed and has yet to grow any back in the strip down her rump. It is kinda funny looking!

It will take them a while to learn what to do. Just keep putting them in at night. You might go out at dusk and give them treats in the coop. That will get them used to coming in when they are supposed to!
I kept mine locked into just my coop for about a week before I gave them access to...
Goldengriff,
Check out the web site in my signature. My coop has a metal floor but it is wider pieces of wire than hardware cloth. I think it is easier on their feet also. I put in wooden sheets in the winter with pine shavings and have it open to help ventilate it in the summer.
I have...
I recently lost my nephews 4 month old BO to cocci. Despite a vet trip and meds she did not make it. This leaves her buddy dexter without a playmate. I am looking for a young BO pullet in the 3 to 4 month range. I am in the High Point area but travel from Raleigh to Charlotte somewhat...
Mark,
I have been using stall dry in my coop as well this winter. The bag states that it is made from all natural ingredients. I am planning on putting it in my compost pile and letting it compost for a season before I use it. I also add grass clippings and leaves so by the time I put it in...
This is a picture of her. She is propping herself up against the side of the box. Yesterday she had her head tucked in her wing and she is just feathers and bones. She is all puffed out.
1) What type of bird , age and weight.
Buff Orphington, 3 months old, HAS LOST MOST OF HER WEIGHT IN THE PAST WEEK
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
She does not do chicken things. She sits and sleeps. Her breathing is heavy. She is eating and drinking.
3) Is there any bleeding, injury...
