I have a pecan tree in my backyard that has mass produced this year. I free range my hens in my backyard. Is it safe for me to pick these pecans with my hens free ranging? My concern is the pecans mixing with chicken manure..
Hope someone can answer my question. Thank you!
Need to use Mentholatum and really rub it in and on their beaks as well. They hate it with a passion. Also, check to see if they are too crowded or too hot as well.
I have a couple of chickens I would like to cull from my flock as they have quit laying eggs. One is a Rhode Island Red and the other is a 2 year old Barred Rock...both are sluggish, but otherwise healthy and eating right....can you use these hens for meat? Stewing? Any processing information...
Anyone else have any ideas on pecans being in the chicken run????? No comments????? Just one comment???? These are Native Pecans, the very best and rare type of pecans. I'd hate for them to go to waste.
My husband and I are having a bumper crop of pecans this year!!! This is the first for us in the 17 years we've lived in this house. Our pecan trees have never produced pecans until this year! My question is this......we have pecans really thick in the chicken run, are those pecans edible...
Thanks for the replies. I appreciate it very much.
I can't take it back, it is inside my feed bin. Although I do still have the bag it came in......next time, I'll check the label on my bags before opening them up!!
My hardware store gave me Medicated Starter Grower instead of Layer Pellets by mistake. I just discovered the mistake this morning. Are the eggs edible after being fed this Medicated Feed? I'm going to call my store and hopefully they will replace my feed without charge!
:DHello from the heart of Texas....My family recipe is as follows:
Has no Mayonaise, we are Miracle Whip lovers.
1 Block of Mild Cheddar Cheese, usually we use the half moon with the red wax ring on it. Take the wax ring off before grating
1 small jar of pimentos, diced
1-2 large Tablespoons...
My Easter Eggers are sooooo tame and sweet natured. Love Easter Eggers. I have one Chestnut, and she follows me wherever I go. Great breed of chickens.
Oh wow Miss Prissy!! I didn't know you were sick with ear infections. I sent you a private message and was wondering why I hadn't heard from you, no wonder. You poor thing. I know exactly how you feel as I had Chronic Ear infections from the time I was born until I was about 11 years old...
Weeeeelll, in the mornings is when I do all my work in the coop, got my flannel pj's, leopard skin colored boots from Academy, purple robe and a brown beanie to keep the chill off, sometimes if it is really cold, I wear my husband's big blue and red jacket over my purple robe. Neighbors get a...
Well, we done butchered 4 roosters this weekend. One thing I noticed was there was hardly any fat on them roosters, like the ones at the grocery store where you have to trim and trim the fat off!
Another thing, the meat is darker, wondering why this is?? Store bought chickens have a more...
I'm from Texas and live not too far from Sealy and it seems that it is the thing for Texas boys to go out into the country and just shoot anything that pleases them! Crazy boys and teenagers. One day them boys will grow up, have chickens and some crazy rowdy teenage kids will come to their...
I've been doing a lot of reading. Just can't seem to find out if I need to put the chickens in water to let them rest in the fridge after the butchering.
My husband, father-in-law and I are all gonna do it the old fashioned way. Scald, pluck and clean the guts out all by our own hands.
My question is this, how long do I keep them in the fridge before freezing them? Do I put them in a pan with cold water into the fridge or just in a pan with no water?
Well, tomowa is butcherin' day for us newbies, my husband and I. We are going to butcher 3 7 month old roosters and 1 1 year old rooster. They are very noisy for our neighbors. We live in a rural area, but in town. No complaints from the neighbors, but my husband is kept awake at night as...
Thanks guys. Can't get a load of gravel, it is too wet. My father brought me a load of sand and it was too wet then. Waiting for it to dry out a bit so we can get some more gravel. We have 60% chance of rain on Wednesday.
