Not sure what this is or what to do about it

I've had the same thing happen. I did leave it with its mates. All turned out well.

    Canadians check in here....

Welcome to BYC. It is a great source for information, with people always ready to help. I'm not sure where you are in Ontario, but in my area, Eastern Ontario, there are lots of poultry sales/auctions/trades. You could search for local poultry groups, and watch for ads posted in feed stores...

Aggressive adult male Call duck towards his 4 week old ducklings

I have to separate my Muscovy ducks into 2 coops with runs each spring. 1 male with 4 females. In the winter everyone is back together in the one coop. I have learned to wait until egg laying stops before re-integrating them. The females are fine but the 2 males alternate being in duck jail/dog...

Setting muscovy getting rid of bad eggs?

If the eggs have been that long, I think they are not viable. I would make the duck get off the nest and candle the eggs. You'll probably have to discard them all. When I have been in this situation, after removing the eggs, each day I remove any new eggs and kick the nest apart. Might take...

    How much feed?

    Now I understand.

    How much feed?

I'm wondering why you wet their food. I would worry about it getting moldy. Mine have chow and clean water separately.

Bare spots on wings - odd need advice

That looks like the bald elbow spots on my dog's legs which are caused by the way he lies on the floor. If they don't look sore, I would guess it is the same for your duck.

    duckling back not fluffing up

Hard to tell from pics. Are the feathers stuck down or missing? When I have had this, I used a soft tooth brush and warm water to get gunk off. It sometimes takes several treatments. Make sure to dry if off after.

    Missing part of skull?

One of a group of 18 barnyard mix chicks that hatched yesterday has an issue. When first hatched this red lump on top of its head was significantly larger. This pictures is at about 12 hours old. Now, at a day old the lump is smaller and soft. The chick is active, eating, drinking and vocal...

Everything for sale, Eastern Ontario, Canada

I'm so sorry to hear you need to sell everything, but I'm not interested in buying any. My flocks are all the size I want. Good luck at the fair.

    Rabbit invasion

I like that suggestion. I have ducks and guinea fowl that could easily be contained to their runs while trapping happens.

    Rabbit invasion

I'm in Eastern Ontario, Canada. I have recently been invaded by wild Eastern Cotton Tail Rabbits. They are living under my coops, within an old rock wall, and under trees in my wooded area. There is no evidence that they are actually getting into the coops or runs. No food or water is...

    Softened water?

All of my critters, chickens, ducks, guinea fowl, peacocks, cats, horses, and a dog get water that has been processed through a softener using salt. Never had any issues.

Things you wish you could say

Yes, that's what I meant. No one wants to be around listening to me sing songs from The Sound Of Music.

    Female Guinea Constant Squawking.

I have 30 guineas right now. Hatched last summer and my plan is to sell 20 of them soon. Most are females and the squawking is non-stop in the group. IMO this is what they do and nothing wrong with yours. I would suggest that you increase the size of your flock to 10 including some males.

Keeping ducks warm in extreme cold

I have the same conditions as Canadian Wind. My Muscovy ducks, chickens, guinea fowl, and peacocks all do alright in extreme cold temperatures. The important thing is that each groups has a coop that has deep bedding and provides protection from wind and snow. Remember that some of the...

How many duck eggs did you get today?

Like Canadian Wind, I haven't had any duck eggs since early fall. Same for peacocks and guinea fowl. Lucky the chickens are at least providing a few. I stand outside the runs and tell every freeloader that it is a good thing I like them. Every year it is exciting to find the first ones.

    Duck pond filter? HELP!

Wondering if this would work for you. Is it possible to attach a hose to the bottom edge on the pool. The hose could be buried for a distance to come up at a convenient place. I just hung the end of my hose on a branch or you could use some kind of stopper. You can use capillary action to...

    Integrating guinea flocks

I was able to integrate this years hatches with existing 1.5 year olds. I did it in groups of 4 or 5 young ones together. I provided lots of hiding places simply using cardboard boxes open at both ends and pieces of boards leaning against the side of the coop. I added perches in the coop so...
