My friend's husband got her four Peking ducklings and one was being bullied and seems to have developed a niacin deficiency. She's asked me to take care of the little one because she's currently sick and doesn't have the time/energy to spend an hour or two daily to take care of the one that needs hand feeding.

My main hesitation is that we have a water softener and I've read mixed things about softened water for chicks/ducks. Should I use water from an outside faucet? Does it matter if the water is softened?

All of my critters, chickens, ducks, guinea fowl, peacocks, cats, horses, and a dog get water that has been processed through a softener using salt. Never had any issues.
