Thanks guys Kinda traumatizing. One second it's chirping, moving around, trying to get out, and literally the next second it's dead, not breathing, and bleeding. Poor thing.
My parents found a chick that was starting to hatch in the barn. It currently has a nickle sized hole in the shell. Just a tad bit of blood showing. It's alive, eyes are open, peeping, and moving its mouth. Currently I have it in a small plastic container, in a larger plastic container that has...
Figured I could jump in. :)
Ordering some Ameraucana chicks, for a hatch date of mid april hopefully. Buying them from Cliff (showinbirds on here). I am super excited! We have a good size flock of mixed layers here, but I am starting my own. Can't believe I am starting out buy spending $80 on...
We have no idea how she was injured. We have a puppy who will chase the chickens, but has never hurt them. Plus, it has been really cold (-1 right now) so he is inside most of the time.
We have thought about splinting the leg. We're not sure how though, because it feels like it is broken on...
Gave her another aspirin and a bunch of yogurt and water. Wondering when she will be ok to go outside in a dog crate with a feeder and water-er and be able to take care of herself. So far I've had to syringe everything into her.
Thanks! I will do that.
Mrs. Ice cube was wanting to run around on the couch so I decided she could go outside in the coop. She still seems a little lethargic but I made her her own little pile of food and she was eating it so I will see how she's doing when I go back out.
The other hen...
My dad would not be pleased with more animals in the house LOL. Three cats, three dogs, a parakeet, and a guinea pig. Can't forget my 4 fish tanks. Or the two injured hens (check out my thread pretty please :) ) living in here right now.
Well it is an ooooold coop with ooold wiring. We have a lightbulb and one plug that works for the heated waterer. It's been getting REALLY cold and I don't want to put chicks out there. Maybe I can join the easter hatch a long.
I will search on how to tube feed - we have never done that before. She doesn't move, but I will give her some asprin. How much?
Right now the second one it wrapped up in a towel and sitting on the couch with me. I don't see any lice or mites while checking through her feathers. Abdomen...
First hen:
Young Russian Orloff, has been laying for a couple months. Yesterday we found her laying outside unable to move. It looks like she has a broken leg (where the feathers are) but that leg is cold and she won't grip with her toes so we wonder if there's nerve damage. She is living in the...
