Hi Everyone,
I have done everything I can to grow grass and other green edibles in my chicken yard. Unfortunately, there are non-edible (or at least undesirable) weeds that are overtaking the grass.
Does anyone know if there is a weed killer that is selective for broadleaf weeds but safe for...
She is 6 years old and has never had problems before. She eats grass, vegetables, and fruits. I just started giving her duck pellets because I could not find regular waterfowl feed. She has access to oyster shells which she eats.
Hi Everyone,
If a goose (or any domestic female bird) has trouble with soft-shell or no-shell eggs getting stuck, how likely is it to happen again? How likely is it to result in their death?
You are so nice to ask.
She gets sick on egg days but once she expels the egg she bounces back.
I am conferring with her vet about options. After reading your post about Keld I was encouraged. The idea of surgery is still on the table. I think I will call around to other vets Monday to see if...
I stand corrected. There does not appear to be anything helpful on YouTube about tube feeding geese for medical purposes. It is all force-feeding for the foie gras industry.
Thank you for your response. I really appreciate your willingness to share your knowledge. You have given me a lot to take to her vet. As you probably know there are not a ton of vets who treat pet geese so it is helpful to acquire information from people who have experience.
Regarding the...
I have a 6-year-old pet goose who spends a lot of time inside and who is part of the family. This year her egg-laying has been problematic.
I will describe her behavior and symptoms and maybe someone can tell me what might be going on and if there is anything that can help her.
Up until this...
Thank you GooseGirl, My girl has a thing that she does when she is relaxed, safe and drowsy as well, and it actually looks similar to this new worrying behavior, so I know what you mean, but this is different. I tried to load a video but cannot figure out how to do it. Maybe someone can explain...
My pet goose is 5 years old. She spends about half her time outside rambling around our yard and half the time inside with us. In the past couple days She has been doing this weird thing where she stands with her head drooping (like when she is drowsy) and her beak does a rapid chattering...
I have heard that they slow down when the light is reduced and yes I have always gone the natural way and will continue to. But last year they laid all winter with only minimal egg reduction.
So this is a normal thing.... for chickens to change their laying habits from year to year?
Hi Everyone,
This is my third year with chickens. I have 8 hens and a roo. They have been good layers but in August they all just stopped.
Any ideas about what's going on? Possible solutions? Is this the end of their laying?
My goose injured her foot/leg today It is swollen and the skin is abraded and she won't put any weight on it. When I say abraded I mean the cartilage is visible at the joint.
I soaked it in salt water, poured betadine on it and put some antiseptic ointment on it. She is in the house under...
my little naked neck has a white bump on the side of her neck and i don't know if it's something i need to worry about, does anyone know what this is? an infected pin feather? should i mess with it?
A while back I asked if grapes (with seeds) were safe for my chickens and got responses saying that the grapes were fine but the seeds could cause problems. So no grapes.
Now I’d like to know what everyone thinks of the guts from all the autumn pumpkins, including the seeds. Will whole raw...
