Firstly, does anyone know of a breed where the coloring is considered "chipmunk" through maturity?
I am currently raising a dark leghorn for a friend, as a chick she has the chipmunk coloring and we were discussing how cool it would be for an adult to keep the coloring.
If not, does anyone...
sounds like a great idea, obviously wont be energy star rated but i think would help stop terrible cold. It would be interesting to see the chickens learn to use that!
careful, it can lead to egg eating, i let it go and now have an darn terrible time stopping them eating my eggs. Its almost like they know the shell is compromised, dont want it to "develop" so sabotage it.
Ok 2 things
1. 1 chicken only lays eggs with VERY soft shells, i have 11 laying birds, all have unlimited access to oyster shell - anything anyone can suggest to supplement diet to create hard shell? 10 birds lay normal eggs
2.) Egg eating, I lose 6 -8 eggs a week, i have tried EVERYTHING i...
good job, you have a hen there that will be a fantastic momma, i have one and she is by a massive distance the best momma out of my flock of 12, she is half the size of the others, she lays her body on the line to protect the chicks and she teaches them everything any chick will ever need to know
no pullets dont crow, the above poster put the she in "", she thought it was SUPPOSED to be a pullet but like most people, she has found that her pullet has ended up as a rooster
can start crowing from 6 weeks to 26 weeks or later, my EE started crowing at 24 weeks, once he started he didnt stop, i live in Sacramento, in my suburb, no roosters so gave it to a friend who lives in Fair Oaks where they can have roosters.
its not normal in the sense that i dont know of any chicken lover that regularly washes their birds. I dont even wash my dog that much, I dont know this for certain but washing them so much might not be good for their feathers, animals produce natural oils that keep them clean, if you put water...
my d'uccle did the same about 2 weeks ago, i have been willing her for about 3 months! put 3 chicks under her, she is the GREATEST momma ever, 3rd time she has been broody, just the best teacher, protector, setter etc, i love it when they go broody
Went to the feed store today for layer pellets, came home with chicks..... 1 Deleware, 1 EE and 1 GLW.
Warm day here in northern Cal, 92 degrees in the back yard. Introduced new chicks to the rabbits. Instantly tried to nestle under them! The feed store put them in a box for me to bring home...
