    Hawks and crows

We were terrorized by Red Tailed hawks last fall...then the crows moved in! They keep the area free and clear of hawks, I've even seen them take off after a Bald Eagle that occaisionally cruises by. The crows nest is about 50 ft from the chicken coop and they come down and grab snacks with the...

How to get chicks to stop picking at a wound?

I "rescued" 2 chicks from TSC today. They both have bloody areas, one on its wing and one where its tail used to be. They would only sell me the min amount of 6. So now I have 4 other chicks picking at the wounds. My brooder isn't really big enough to seperate them and be able to give them all...

Which breed of these would you recommend?

I highly recommend the red sex-links, as long as you aren't set on a "pure bred". We have 4 and they are wonderfully sweet, great layers and cold hardy.

You say she lays white eggs? Strange since she has red earlobes. I would guess a mix of some sort, very nice looking:)

    Silver lace, rooster? or Pullet?

    Assorted Breed Chicks from TSC

The reddish ones look like red sex-links(red stars, cinnamon queens etc). The yellow ones could be amber links. I got 5 red chicks and one white one from TSC last spring and my yellow chick turned out to be an amber-link. Sweetest chicken ever! Sadly, she was dinner for a red-tailed hawklast fall:(

We have 6, 3 week olds(BO&SLW) in a rubbermaid container in our basement. Now that they are bigger(and bad!) I'd like to move them outside, with their heat lamp of course. I have med sized A-frame coop and run. I can close off the run part and hang their light in the coop. When the weather is...

Our dog once had an encounter with a suspected rabid raccoon. First eggs today from the Rhode Island Red!

I think you have more than 1 hen laying! Its pretty rare for a chicken to lay more than 1 egg a day and 3 is quite a stretch;) Somebody is sneaking around behind your back! Congrats!

was told i got leghorn hens/RSL pullets. do you agree? UPDATE!

What stands out the most to me is the chick on the right in the firs tpic, has white legs, while the other has the typical RSL yellow legs. Is the white legged chick the roo?
