I don’t know what to do!

Can you take a close up pic of her feet, it looks like she could have scaly leg mites but it’s hard to tell.

Wow I’ve never heard of that before but I’m glad you took her to the vet and got it sorted, thanks for sharing.

Are my hens better off WITH the rooster or WITHOUT the rooster?

He is so beautiful though! Can you re home him maybe instead of culling? I had 4 hens (one died on the weekend) so 3 now, and no roo. We are on 5 acres and I think they would feel safer with a roo but they are just too noisy for my liking although you can get collars to muffle the sound (I...

What injury does my new adopted hen have?

I agree with others I think bumble foot and scaly leg mites. They are both relatively easy to treat. If you want to try yourself, soak her legs in warm water with Epsom salts for 10-15 minutes to make it easier to pick the scab off. Squeeze and get puss out (the puss will be hard rather than...

    Culling....

Very sorry for your loss. We almost had to on the weekend as well but she passed in my arms. The thought of it breaks my heart xx

    Chicken’s body has green patch

Thank you, it was so tough losing her. Does your hen roost at night or is she laying on the ground? (I’m only a newbie to chickens but I’ve been doing heaps of research) and when I was looking up what might have been wrong with my hen I saw that hens that lay on the ground and not on the roost...

    Chicken’s body has green patch

Bumping the post for you, I just had something similar with one of my hens it was a massive scab though. Does it look like a scab the pic is kind of hard to see. Unfortunately for my hen she passed away as I couldn’t clear it up it kept spreading and growing like a tumour.

    Update on my hen Nigel.

Just an update for everyone who was helping me try to treat my chook Nigel. She just passed away in my arms, she was fine this morning but deteriorated very quickly this evening and hubby was going to put her down this evening after the kids went to bed. I went outside to sit with her, had her...

Me again! More pics of my hens problem.

Thank you so much. I definitely think it’s very odd because it’s a very hard lump. When I very 1st inspected the open part of the wound, there already was a lot of the hard brown scabby part with feather holes where she had plucked the feathers out. It doesn’t seem right to me, she also is the...

    Holding chickens

This is me having snuggles with one of mine after treating a wound. She doesn’t like to be picked up but once she’s on my lap she will happily go to sleep and enjoys being pet. I’ve had to handle her due to her wound care, if she didn’t want meant to be there you’d know about it lol

Me again! More pics of my hens problem.

I checked her over for mites and I can’t see anything. Her skin is nice and clean every where else. She has scaly leg mites which I’m treating her for. Could be the sore is itchy, I feel like as soon as we are making progress she’s ripping a new hole in her skin :( I think I will try get her an...

Me again! More pics of my hens problem.

Hello, I just want to say thanks to all that have helped me so far. I’ve been treating my hen for a wound for a few days now but I feel like I’m at a loss because she keeps pecking herself! So in the beginning I thought she might have been pecked by my other chickens (as I caught one in the act...

hen stopped laying and seems ill.

Aww I hope she passes the egg soon. I follow a couple that have ducks that get egg bound sometimes (from memory her girls have soft shell eggs which are hard to pass) so they give them a warm 20 minute Epsom salt bath to help them. So this might help for your hen.
