    hi A sad mystery, this chick has lost toes, she was fine last week so it has happened in the last 4-5 days. She is the only one of 7 that has a problem.     We have had chickens for 5 years now. 2 that are 5 are moulting. Am in U.K. And the weather here is autumn / fall with highs of 13 C and lows of around 11, last week went down to 7C. Why do they start moulting as temp drops? We have 4 18mth old true breeds and 2 of them are beginning to moult...

    Can you please confirm gender and breed of these two 7wk old chicks.

    Thanks, I thought they were Roos. The first chick is a maron I think due to fluff on legs....but can't work it out. I bought a mix of maron and Sussex eggs to incubate, so I guess it's possible that they are a mix?
