Quote: I think they are talking about actual wood pellets, not wood shavings or wood chips.

    What are these people thinking?

Quote: I thought that round was better, since in nature they would roost in trees..... and branches are roundish, not squarish. I read on here that a builder's grade banister would be an inexpensive way to build a good roost. Haven't researched enough yet though. Thoughts? (sorry to...

23 week EE in nest, cross your fingers for blue!

YAY!! Congrats! I'm impatiently waiting for my 25 week old EE to start laying. I keep putting her in the nest hoping that she gets the hint. LOL

    What are these people thinking?

Quote: What should they be using? I need to build a new roost and I was going to use dowels. Is the 1 inch too small, too big or what?

    What are these people thinking?

Quote: I'm confused. Are you saying that only people in the suburbs have backyards? I live on 12 acres out in the country and I have a nice backyard.

    tried the cabbage dangle yesterday

LOL that's just the only pic I could find. Mine is only about 3 or 4 feet long. Well really it's my husbands, but he'd never miss it cuz he never catches anything. LOL

    Hens not laying!

I am also not-so-patiently waiting for my EE to start laying. She was hatched on May 11. I can't wait to see what color her eggs are gonna be!! But I guess it's like humans...some girls start their period at 10, some at 12, some at 14, etc.

    tried the cabbage dangle yesterday

I need to buy a head of cabbage and try it. They don't much care for lettuce but maybe they'll like the cabbage. Do you think hanging it on a fishing stringer would work? Like this but not quite as long. lol

My Leghorn Flogged my little Girl

BTW, I'm sure you'll get some responses saying that he is just doing his job, etc and you should try to train him, etc. But I disagree since there is a child involved. Yes, he is technically "doing his job" or at least he thinks he is doing his job but your daughter is not actually a threat to...

My Leghorn Flogged my little Girl

Dude, I'd eat him. Life's too short to have an aggressive roo. I think I've read that once they fixate on one person, they're not likely to change. Get rid of it, don't let your dd live in fear of it.

Are aggressive roos even agressive as babies?

I have fifteen 3 week old Ameraucanas. One of them just HAS to be a roo, I just know it. Everytime I pick up a chick (and they ALWAYS cry like I am killing them) he runs up close to my hand and watches...but all the others are running and hiding. He hasn't tried attacking or anything but he...

    No dark yellow yolks.

My dad always swore that the more corn they got, the more yellow/orange the yolks.

    Washing eggs....yes or no?

I noticed that in a lot of the "first egg" pics, many of them were wet. I thought you weren't supposed to wash the eggs because it removes the waxy coating that protects it from bacteria? Is that an old wives tale?
