Found an egg on my dock

Sorry to be a downer here but I really don't see this ending well. The chick is going to need to be fed and raised by a licensed rehabber and someone who knows what it needs. Once it hatches you'll have a limited time frame to get food for it and feeding it incorrectly will kill it. Please try...

Will my Pigeons hatch a chicken egg?

Ah. I wasn't aware you took the egg. I thought it was abandoned. I agree with Jak, you definitely should not be taking any eggs from nests. Leave it to nature and let the mother take care of them.

Will my Pigeons hatch a chicken egg?

Not sure, like I said I'm not positive on the temps for incubating the sparrow egg. But I'll tag @biophiliac for the pigeon egg 😊

Will my Pigeons hatch a chicken egg?

You can incubate it. With pigeon eggs aim for 100 degrees and 40-50 humidity. Bio might have better advice for that too. Also for the sparrow egg you may want to pop that in the incubator too. House sparrow eggs are very very fragile and thin shelled. On incubating that I'm not very sure, but I...

Will my Pigeons hatch a chicken egg?

Oh that's good 😊👍 House Sparrows are an invasive species in the us so if the chick is born it'll have to stay with you. Also I'm not to sure about the pigeons feeding it. Sparrows are insectivores (and also occasionally eat some seed) so the pigeon milk will most likely not work very well for it.

Will my Pigeons hatch a chicken egg?

Sounds like everything's going good! Though with the sparrow egg, depending on the type of sparrow they are protected under the Migratory Bird Act, and you can be fined if found in possession of the egg or chick. If it's a house sparrow though you're good, they're invasive and non-releasable.

Growing Chicks Outside of Their Shells: A Thread

I've always been super interested in this and I've wanted to give it a try but heard of the difficulty with bacteria getting into the egg without the shell. Would love to see how this goes and pictures/etc! 😊

    Duck with broken top beak

The bill will heal (round off). If you can catch him, you should clean it as well as you can (remove dirt and debris). For the time being make him a mushy mix like you mentioned, and keep an eye on his weight. He might need to be shown the mush first/see that it's food to get the idea. Best of...

    Dog compatibility????

Just a warning, all these breeds stated are high prey drive dogs. It'll take a lot of convincing to keep them from going after chickens or birds in general. And also as stated they are high energy as well. If you don't keep them busy they will find their own sources of entertainment, ie the...

    Snake ID please

I wanna know what garter snakes you've met! 🤣 Up north they're so docile you can handle them as long as you want with no bites. I think I've only been bitten once by a garter in my whole life. They do musk heavily but are very hesitant to bite. Now black rat snakes on the other hand...I got bit...

    Snake ID please

It's actually a long told myth that they eat bugs! They do however enjoy earthworms, toads, frogs and fish! 😊

How long to hard boil serama eggs?

I have 2 gamebirds who lay pretty tiny eggs. And I've boiled quail eggs before. Honestly I kind of just did it the same time as regular eggs as I wasn't sure and they came out perfect. 🤣

I'm impressed because from the pics it looks like she barely has a neck!! :thSo glad she's doing well though. Birds are resilient creatures!

Turkey neck injury - infection? Gross pics

It looks necrotic (dead tissue). I would keep up the antibiotics and clean it out the best you can. She looks alert though!

Fox attack?? (Warning- content could be considered graphic)

Owls and birds of prey will often go for the head only and leave the body. Skunks eat bugs, reptiles, frogs, plants, nuts etc and almost never prey on chickens, so I doubt it was that. So sorry for your loss 😢

Found an egg on my dock

It isn't because the feds want to be the hero. I'm a wildlife rehabilitator. I can't tell you how many times I've seen people try to 'do the right thing' and improperly care for an animal resulting in improper growth or something that makes them unreleasable into the wild. The reason the...
