So my old rooster ( gone now ) tore up all of my hens backs from mating with them. I can’t remember if this hen got her back tore up, but I think she did. Also the feathers on her feet are doing the same thing. Anyway, her back is covered in little feather nubs, and I was wondering if it is new...
I can't get pictures at the moment as I am heading out of town in a couple minutes, when I get back I'm going to set up a Wood ash/Sand bath inside the coop, and I have about 310 Square feet of run space, and about 150 Square feet of indoor coop space. I have 28 chickens.
As a precaution I sprayed the coop down with water, dish soap, and cooking oil to kill any mites in there. And later tonight, I’m going to spray the chickens down with an essential oil mixture which is water, lemon, eucalyptus, cinnamon bark, lavender, grapefruit, lemon grass, and clove.
I've noticed some of my hens are missing feather right underneath their crop and where their missing feathers the skin is flakey and scabby. I also have some hens that are missing feathers starting right underneath their beaks and going down to the crop. Is it mites? Or something related to...
I have a 5-6 month old Plymouth barred rock/Dixie rainbow hen, that decided she wants to be a mom. I can have up to 30 chickens in my area, so I gave her 1 egg to hatch to see if she'll be good mom. She's being a really good mom so far, keeping other hens away, but she's off the nest right now...
I know for sure he’s something crossed with a dixie rainbow. I was also thinking Easter egged or Americana. I have both of those breeds, so both are a possibility.
I know right! I love his colors a lot. When he was younger he was really dull orange, but within the last week his colors popped to life. I know he is half dixie rainbow but I don’t know the other half. Here’s a picture of him about 2 months ago. His name is Bleu. In the right light his neck and...
ok, so I have some chickens, which I’m hoping to be hens. I’m leaning to most likely yes they all are. All the chickens in the photos aren’t 4-5 months old. And then the last photo is of one of my roosters who I’m not sure on the breed. It’s something crossed with Dixie rainbow.
Here’s a couple pictures of the roosters I chose. I still don’t know what the gray one could be a mix of. The options are buff Orpington, ameracauna, brown leghorn, fully dixie rainbow, Rhode Island Red, silver laced Wyandotte, black sex link, barred rock. All mixed with dixie rainbow.
I free range my chickens in my orchard which is mostly grapevines, and they love to eat the leaves. When I prune the vines I give the clippings to them and they go nuts for them. I know the leaves are safe for human consumption, but are they safe for chickens?
Ok, so I have her separated in a cage, but she's still in the coop so they don't forget about her, and attack her when I put her back into the flock. I gave her some bedding, some electrolyte water (It's the only thing I had that had a lot of vitamin B), and some food. She's eating and drinking...
She just started limping. I’ve checked for bumblefoot, and there’s no swelling or pink patches. We’re building an extension onto the coop, so I’m wondering if she could’ve gotten caught in some wire we had lying around? If she doesn’t improve by tomorrow what should I do?
I just set this up today, but to keep my chickens water cool, I have a water pump, that pumps the water back up into the top waterer and then falls into the bottom one. It's already reached 105 this year, and I'm gonna put a kitty pool in the coop for them to play in. And try the frozen water...
Ya, I also had a white leghorn rooster. He was a pain. He was small, but he was quick and mean. I gave him to my neighbors and they ate him. Now this one's going in the stewpot too.
