Best rooster for colour over mixed flock

Looks like I’m getting a frizzle candy corn rooster! Speckled Brahma is basically the same as speckled Sussex from what I can see

Best rooster for colour over mixed flock

Would white produce mainly white? Partridge is a consideration! I’m pretty sure the red Pyle is a variation of partridge 🤔

Checking-In On Peeps - Post Here To Say Hello!

It’s been rough! I’m still pretty busy with kids as my youngest is only 8 months, but I’m hoping the chickens will cheer us all up 😇

Best rooster for colour over mixed flock

Hey all, So I’m getting a flock together again after not having one for a while, so far I have: * commercial red (isa brown, hyline etc) * commercial white * a few polish (gold lace, black with white crest) * birchen maran *copper maran * silken aras (black and lavender) * x-breed dark eggers...

Checking-In On Peeps - Post Here To Say Hello!

I’ve been away for ages, mainly due to my whole flock being either predated or lost to CRD. Oh and the red mite plague 😵‍💫 I’ve since had two kids, my ex partner come out as transgender, and a few other things that delayed me getting back into it. Anyway I’m gradually getting some birds back, I...

My flock has respiratory symptoms. What do I do?!

I'm going to chase the vet up after easter for a blood test (apparently that's how they test for Mycoplasma?) and whatever else they need for IB. Then I'll know and can decide what to do accordingly. I ultimately want to have a disease free flock if I can....the idea of sourcing all the birds...

My flock has respiratory symptoms. What do I do?!

I actually agree with you, my big concern now is how I would actually source disease free stock as everyone seems very blase about it and there is no certified or tested free studs. I have found a protocol for producing disease free eggs by feeding antibiotics and then getting rid of the adult...

My flock has respiratory symptoms. What do I do?!

Okay the vet has given me some Tylan for the worst ones (Hamburgs! The others are less effected). The advice has been to not test unless I can’t clear it up with treatment, apparently pretty much all the flocks have it-including the show and stud flocks! I think I will get tested once another...

My flock has respiratory symptoms. What do I do?!

I agree that they picked it up from my existing flock, I suspect the original culprit was a prize rooster I bought from a very renowned breeder. The mild symptoms showed up initially after his quarantine and subsequent introduction but I had cleaned the coop and stirred up a lot of dust and...

My flock has respiratory symptoms. What do I do?!

Hi all :) I currently have around 20 chickens of varying breeds and ages (POL pullets to older hens, and 3 roosters), mainly hatched and raised by me with a few adult introductions form reputable breeders after a quarantine. I’ve noticed some sneezing and clear nasal discharge, and also dust...

First ever shipped eggs: day 18, not right?

@oregonkat thanks for the tips, I'll let you know how it goes forsure!! The second hatch was locally picked up eggs, the person I bought them off lost all her chickens shortly after so I suspect genetics but I could be wrong.

Assisted chick, glued feathers and slightly gunky navel

Okay so he's still alive this morning, he got tipped up last night and was a little week this morning. His navel looks better this morning, I've dipped his beak in water, he doesn't want to eat or peck. Should I make him some warm mash from the crumble and try and dip his beak?

Assisted chick, glued feathers and slightly gunky navel

Okay good, he is really not happy in the incubator alone. I've snuck him under the eco glow and so far there are no squabbles, I'm keeping a close eye and if all is well I'll leave him there for the night.....if not back in the Bator I guess! I swear this incubation stuff is going to kill me :jumpy

Assisted chick, glued feathers and slightly gunky navel

Hi everyone, Long story short I assisted a little blue copper Maran hatch this afternoon (day 23, started to unzipped and got stuck, legs were in the wrong place to hatch), the chick strongly exited the egg under its own steam once I freed the top so he could move. However the navel is slightly...

First ever shipped eggs: day 18, not right?

They arrived two days ago and were posted two days before that :barnie The last pip was stuck and needed assistance, all the other eggs I checked one by one. One was fully formed with the yolk absorbed and internal pip but dead :hit The others all seem to have to quit around day 18. What would...

First ever shipped eggs: day 18, not right?

Okay another hatched late day 22, one more pipped early day 23. I candled the rest quickly and I can't see any internal pips or movement so I think they may be dead. I'll leave them till day 25 to be sure. Unfortunately my expense shipped eggs have arrived.....so now I'm thinking I'll just have...

First ever shipped eggs: day 18, not right?

quick update guys, one egg pipped about 12 hours into day 21, 2 more have pipped the start of day 22 (the three smallest eggs as predicted). None of the bigger eggs have pipped as of yet, I'm hoping the pips will hatch by mid day 22 and then the others will follow fairly quickly. I put a...

First ever shipped eggs: day 18, not right?

Thanks guys, I didn't think to take pictures :barnie But I can try later on, I just don't want to cause more harm than good poking around in there! They should start to hatch Wednesday night through Thursday, while I'm home and ready to assist, I'm at uni the next two days which will stop me...
