First ever shipped eggs: day 18, not right?

Okay another hatched late day 22, one more pipped early day 23. I candled the rest quickly and I can't see any internal pips or movement so I think they may be dead. I'll leave them till day 25 to be sure. Unfortunately my expense shipped eggs have arrived.....so now I'm thinking I'll just have to put them in, as they don't need turning anyway, but will the 60% humidity effect them? It'll only be for a couple of days.

If your shipped eggs just arrived, dont put them into the bator where you have just had a hatch. Clean the bator first. Your other eggs, if not hatched by day 25 are not likely to. I would not risk your expensive eggs with bacterial infection from the hatch debris or the possibility of dead embryos. IMHO.

They arrived two days ago and were posted two days before that The last pip was stuck and needed assistance, all the other eggs I checked one by one. One was fully formed with the yolk absorbed and internal pip but dead The others all seem to have to quit around day 18. What would cause so many to quit at day 18? Could it have been the slightly low temp? Letting the assist dry up and then I'll wipe and refill.

Sorry for the quitters, it is always so heartbreaking to have them die late. There are lots of possibilities as to why they do this. Temp is one but it is usually a temp that has been too high rather than too low. Bacterial infection is another, genetics sometimes. In one of my first incubations, I lost most of them because, I believe I messed with the eggs way too often. I know folks on here say it's fine to candle etc. every day if you want to but I think it causes the little ones too much stress. I candle on specific days now and no more unless absolutely necessary. My hatch rates have increased substantially and my chicks are fat and happy!

It's interesting to me that your second hatch produced less than healthy chicks. Were these eggs from a local source? If so, can you go and look at their chickens?

When cleaning your bator this time, before setting your next eggs, use a diluted bleach solution with a spray bottle and allow to air dry. Keep your humidity between 30 - 40% for the first 18 days and then don't increase until you get your first external pip. Good luck with the next batch. Keep posting please.

Oh, and make sure your temp is stable at 99.5degs. Do you have an independently calibrated (by you) set of instruments. R-com bators are usually really good but if your temp is off, you need to know what is going on by using independent instruments. Also, I would use your auto turner again if your hatch using it the first time was a success. I would not go longer than a day or two with not turning those new shipped eggs unless they are really slippery in the air cells.

@oregonkat thanks for the tips, I'll let you know how it goes forsure!! The second hatch was locally picked up eggs, the person I bought them off lost all her chickens shortly after so I suspect genetics but I could be wrong.
