No I didn't bring any Minorcas as they are all in breeding pens. I dont show my best birds because they are breeders. My show string birds are my breeder backups just in case I have a fertility issue. I will be showing Minorcas at the fall shows.

    German New Hampshire

My Reserve Champ. American cockerel, Pacific Poultry Breeders Assoc. winter show in Stockton on Jan 26, 2014. It was a wonderful time with many (2,500+) good looking birds. Thanks to all that made this show possible. Better pics to follow later when I get the time to take them.

Very large comb now flopped over and rotting underneath, any comb support to keep it up?

I had several Minorcas with combs that fell over as the birds matured. These birds were in very good facilities with access to sunlight in outdoor runs. I am not an expert but there was no correlation between the environment and floppy combs. The problem is likely genetic in nature as the cock...

Scott have you weighed any of your birds or done any carcass comparisons? I'm wondering how they compare from a meat production standpoint. Thanks!

    Minorca thread!

Hey Dan, Would it make sense to use Whites to improve these Buffs since you would have a closer color to buff? Just wondering. I have pretty big Whites that might help. Cheers, Mike

    Turkey Color Genetics Lessons

I have a few birds in my Midget White (or Beltsville Small White if you prefer- because there is really no way to tell) flock that have blue eyes. This trait seems interesting to me and I would like to understand its genetics (how is this trait passed, dominant/recessive, sex linked, etc) if...

When birds are young you can still cull for disqualifications (DQ's) but to cull for type you should wait. With the German line stubs (feathers on the feet/shanks) are a DQ and often appear early. They can be between toes or on the shanks. There are a few "blatant" DQ's/defects that you can...

Thanks for the excellent information! I intend to breed back some of the best looking birds to get full white. Does the splash color work the same as cuckoo?

    Minorca thread!

Earlobes are on my "to do" list for sure. For now I am focused on getting the body (size, depth and width) and bone nice and big. I agree that the earlobes on these birds is pretty small. For all of the birds I breed (New Hamps, White Giants, White Minorcas) I have an old photo or painting...

    Minorca thread!

Thanks for the comments! I have some splash females that are quite bit bigger than the white hen (which is one of my smallest birds) in the photos. I have struggled to get good sized white females and would appreciate any ideas. Also note that one of the birds was a 3mo old cockerel and not a...

    Minorca thread!

Hello Mincora enthusiasts. I wanted to bring you all up to date on my White Mincora (WM) breeding program. As many of you know the WM has almost lapsed into obscurity. I am in year two of my WM breeding program. I have enjoyed this breed tremendously and fully intend to keep working on this...

    Minorca thread!

I have heard from others that purchased Sandhill Whites that they are too small for proper type. But I have never seen them myself. I have ordered other breeds from Sandhill in the past and they had poor type and some disqualifications for exhibition.

    Frostbitten Comb- Vaseline Didn't Work

A few questions: What is the square footage of your coop? How many birds are in your coop? Do they roost in close proximity to each other or are they all over the place? Do you have ventilation at only one end of the coop? Can wind enter the coop?
