My hen is hatching 8 eggs and I have been checking each day to see if there are chicks under her. This morning when I slightly lifted her.. two dry babies tumbled out, and she immediately started pecking them. I have searched at least 10 pages on here about broodies and babies and just have to...
I am at my wits end trying to figure out what is going on with my little hen.
Actually, it seems I may be bringing her back to health, but in the mean time, I have some questions.
First off.. the rest of my birds seem fine.
She seems to be molting. Not sure when she last laid an egg. It also...
My d'Uccle rooster was attacked by dogs, but, THANK GOD, I chased the dogs off before they killed him.
This was last Monday (5/16). I have cleaned it and kept Neosporin on the sores and all over his back for that matter.
Last night I did not put Neosporin on it but now I am wondering if maybe I...
Aunt Midnight and her niece Minnie Pearl have gone broody. It's actually kind of funny.
I have always assumed that Rusty the rooster had cochin in him because Midnight is a cochin,
and they came from the same farm.
Well, looking at his daughter Minnie (Rusty/Australorp cross) I am sure now...
We bred our d'Uccles this fall and here is what we got that we are keeping...out of 6 hatched.
They are 12 weeks old in this picture. I took it a couple of days ago.
Our little d'Uccle was limping really bad and wouldn't walk or eat for a week. After a good dose of electrolytes yesterday, she is much better.
Maybe it was a vitamin deficiency. here is a video of her in my kitchen today. She follows us and wants to sit on us all the time. And boy is she a...
Is it just my bad luck, or do most fertilized eggs become roosters?
we have hatched out 14 eggs in the past year
and only 4, maybe 5, have been pullets.
And this is 2 different roosters.
I am about ready to never hatch eggs again...
but man I love having chicks around! what a dilemma!
Here's my little d'Uccle rooster with a gunky eye. He has been this way
since he hatched. I cleaned it off thinking maybe he got some straw in it,
which may have originally been the case. He has not been in straw since the morning he hatched. I have them all in a brooder in the house
on...
We have D'uccles... one Rooster and 3 hens. I plan to hatch eggs from them. From there, can I hatch eggs from the same rooster and any offspring pullets that he may produce? Is there a genetic reason why I shouldn't? I really don't want more than one rooster.
We acquired a D'uccle Rooster a few weeks ago and I introduced him to our girls last night. BOB chased the first one around for a few seconds like he was going to mate.. but then stopped when she ran. He did this a few other times with the other girls. He has danced a little, but for the most...
I am going to part with my beloved Rusty. He has won the hearts of a few here on BYC as Rusty is quite the looker, even though he is a mystery cross breed!! He was even Picture of the Week when I first joined.
One of our D'uccles stole the poultry shows this week and it has been suggested by...
FINALLY.. I think that Rusty has produced a rooster that looks like
him.. EXCEPT.. he is going to have muffs and feathered feet!
We cannot keep him, and I am sad to get rid of him.
I plan to sell himin early August at the fairgrounds.
I hope that someone will take him that will send me...
Celeste is going to show our 3 D'uccles this year for 4-H. I believe that Emma is a fine specimen as the others only have a little muff and a lot of white in their feathers.
Here is Emma. Does anyone else here show D'uccles?
I understand that crossbred chicks are hard to determine their gender without a crow..... but I am sharing some pictures to see what the consensus is. THEY ARE 5.5 WEEKS OLD.
I think I am sure about one of them...but the little black d'uccle has me on the fence...
This is Minnie Pearl...
You know how it is... you get them as babies and you just can't tell. Well this duck, I do believe, should be old enough by now, but I'd LOVE some input.
The original owners kept saying "he", but when I got it today, I noticed a pink ribbon.. and then this.
Is my duck a boy or a girl?
If we are going to have mascots, maybe a forum for that would be better than just a thread.
my thoughts....
This way, each mascots adventures would be if separate posts for all to find easily. rather than having to search page by page to find it, or rather than having to set up links.... the...
I just learned of a regulation in NYS that I wanted to share.
From what the tester said, it seems that many folks may not know
this or think that seeing as their flock was tested at one point, that
makes it good for many years. I would not have known about this had it
not been for the fact...
You get this cute little thing... that I am afraid MIGHT be a rooster.
It is 2 weeks and 3 days old today!
I know it is early, but this is my first ever D'uccle chick. I am wondering, boy or girl.
here is mom and dad
