Hi all,
I know this is probably in the wrong place, but I have no idea where would be the right place :)
We've had to do a chicken dissection for uni and we're in the middle of the write-up (fun times, eh?). Not the best
practical when you have lots of chickens at home but still...
Hi all,
Just another oddity to report.
Yesterday we were all round the farm (as you do) and one of the chickens screamed, of course all
attention went on the chicken pen! All the birds had gone to one side of the enclosure and one of
our hens had died :(
This is their enclosure (except...
.... Predator Mites....
Good Afternoon Peoples
My mum was researching treatment for red mites and came accross a blog and the person said they used
these predator mites that are much smaller than red mite, but only eat red mite (they don't go on the chickens),
apparently they die off much...
Hi all
My cat Sochin (its Japanese, pronounced So-Shin) is nearly 15 years old. She LOVES her food, but on Thursday (9th) she didn't want
her food which was really weird. After going to sleep on me for a while she begged me to go outside, so I let her out.
She didn't come home on Friday :(...
Hi All :)
Whilst collecting eggs today I noticed one of my new (ex-free range) hens behaving rather oddly.
She was picking up sawdust, and placing it on her back (where she is bald at the moment). I've not seen any of my other
hens doing this before.
I think she may also be going broody...
Hi all,
So I thought I'd share some photos of my new additions.
Since battery farms are illegal in England now (yay), farms have either moved to "barn" farms or "free range" or have simply
stopped egg farming. Great news, so I thought.
On Saturday I went to collect some ex-free range hens...
Hi all,
Some of the children on our farm are due to be showing some chickens and ducks (as well as rabbits etc) at a large show soon.
Does anyone have any tips on how they can prepare their birds etc for the show? They have all been
practicing handling and learning the info about their bird...
Good'Morning Everyone,
I was just wondering if you feed your hens and roos fruit and veg??
Mine seem to love it and are happy to eat what they are given (alongside their normal food of course).

Hi all :)
Well a few days ago I told you about our massive egg that had another egg inside it, and a couple of days ago one of our hens laid an egg smaller then a bantam egg!
Anyhoo when you shook the egg lightly it didn't feel right, so this time we filmed us breaking it (just incase...
Hi there,
I help run/founded a young farmers club in England. We provide people aged 10-26 the opportunity to get up close and person
with a variety of animals, one of which is chickens :D
I am in the middle of designing our new health check sheets, these are given to our members they select...
Hi there,
I'd thought I'd share our latest bit of oddness..
About a week ago one of our hens laid a massive egg (it was larger then a duck egg, and wasn't that far from being the size of a goose egg). We thought it was a double yolker, but it was a little bit different to what we expected...
Hi there,
One of my alyesbury ducklings has caught her head in their run, she now keeps holding her head right back,
and her eyes are bloodshot.
Is there anything I can do to help her?
Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone could help me.
My two females are sharing a nest, is this common??
We was just wondering what happens when the eggs hatch if the continue to share?
Thanks

Hi all,
We had a group 6 female ducks and 1 male drake (all aylesbury) that were all living happily until
we were asked to take on several more due to their current owners moving to a smaller house, as luck (or lack of) would have it the two turned out to be males.
1 is a very large...
Hi Everyone,
We're a bit confused and wondered if you could offer any explanation/advice.
We have 6 girls and 1 drake. We have been collecting 4 eggs per day for a
few months now, however on Monday we found 7 eggs and discovered that one
of the ducks had made a nest. We left the three eggs...
Hiii
We've set 5 light sussex (well last night) and have a real mixture to set tomorrow (2x Salmon Faverolles, 3x Frizzles and 1x Leghorn).
So fingers crossed I'll have some chicks soon :yiipchick
Is anyone else setting any?
Hi guys,
Some new hatching eggs arrived today and we're looking to set them at some point over
the weekend.
The last set only hatched 3 out of 12 with one of those being deformed and ... well 'special'...
My question is, does it matter if you add water to the bator from the begining? Last...
Hi guys,
So our chickens moved into the new enclosure a few weeks ago, and I'm looking for ideas
as to how I can enrich their lives
This is a pic of part of their little area, lived in by my ex-batts and my new black rocks.
(The shed/coop now has proper steps and a ramp for the chickens to...
Hi there,
One of my chicks was late hatching, and I don't think he/she has formed properly.
He's now coming up to two days old and has opened his eyes, his legs look
odd (and to me they look like they are now in the right position) and this prevents him from walking normally.
On top of this he...
