A week ago I started the whole flock (3 hens and 5 pullets) on corid because one of the hens passed after being lethargic and having snotty poo. Today I put electrolytes and probiotics in the water and noticed one of the pullets acting off. I brought sick baby in the house and she looks really...
I have a hen that has lost the feathers by her tail and vent. At first I believed that the other hend were picking on her but now I'm not sure.
I have checked her for lice. I don't see any! So what do you think is causing this and how do I get her back to being nice and healthy? Thanks!
Insult on injury, it is *my* own dog that is doing it!
I have a 2 year old dauchshund that is responsible for killing 4 of my hens in the past 2 months. We have built a pretty good fence around the coop area to prevent more killing which resulted in my americauna getting eaten this morning. I...
I'm pretty shocked right now.
I live in the suburbs, I didn't think there were predators that could do this. I'm so sad!
Any ideas what could have done it? All that's left are a bunch of feathers.
What can I do for my one remaining hen? Do I get her new friends or not?
I know it isn't uncommon for hens to peck and go after each other, but I have a hen that is a jerk to me!
If I pick her up, she poops on me...or tries to. Then when I put her down, she bows up and challenges me and ends up pecking my legs or foot. If I walk by her in the yard and need to get...
One of my less winsome chickens has gone broody again. Again!! 2nd time in 6 months. She's killing the egg production around here, we only have 3 hens.
Anyway, we have an approximately 4 week old chick and I'm wondering if I can stick her under the broody hen one night? Is a month old too...
Her name is Do-si-dos and she's a buff orpington chick. I'm hoping she 'stays' a girl, they said they were sexed chicks, but I know that's only ~ 90% accurate and knowing my luck..... I didn't ask them how old she is but she's only just getting wing feathers so I'm guessing just a few days...
I have a pullet that has decided to molt through the winter. I told her it wasn't a good idea but she didn't listen to me.
We live in north Texas and we've had our most serious cold weather move in today. We have about 6-8" of snow out there, it is COLD, and my chicken is missing all of the...
Hello all,
I need a little reassurance here. My previously broody pullet was broody for the full 3 weeks, if not a little longer and just came out of that in the last 10 days or so.
Now she's decided to lose all her feathers. Normally I wouldn't care but doesn't DECEMBER seem like a stupid...
The title says it all. Since my one hen went broody, my other hens aren't laying.
Obviously, she won't get out of the nesting box. We happen to only have one nesting box. Will the other hens lay someplace else or are they holding them?
Anyone have any words of advice? I only have 3...
I have 3 chickens and they all make the weirdest noises. I had no idea they would/could make so many sounds.
My NH red, Sugar, is probably the quietest until the dog runs past and then we get the panic 'bok bok bok' really quickly as they flutter outta the way. Otherwise, she only makes...
I've been waiting what seems like forever for this little eggie. My 5 month old NHR finally laid her first egg. She's been squatting for a few days and I've been giving her scritches when she does it. Her coop mates, two 5 month old wyandottes are not laying or squatting yet.
Sugar and her egg:
I've searched the threads but mostly people take pictures when it is further along. So, is this the beginning of Bumblefoot?
It is on her foot, and knee (hock?) and I don't know what it is. Thoughts?? Jeez, it is hard to take pictures of a chicken you are holding yourself!
I found foreign poop in the yard today. Upon closer inspection, I believe it to be snake poop. It is really big though, bigger than what I'd think snakes would poop, so I'm scared that there's a large snake casing my coop. What steps should I take, if any, to prevent it from eating my girls...
Boo-hoo. :(
When I go to visit my 3 hens, they avoid me. Two will come to me and eat from my hand if I have treats, but the other (I'm sure) thinks I'm the big bad wolf.
I've tried treats (all they want is bread, meal worms and crickets- produce scraps are only fly food out there), I've...
Maybe a silly question but I haven't seen it asked yet.
How high off the ground, generally, should I put the food and water? I'm making a waterer with chicken nipples and I made a feeder out of PVC. I'm worried I set the feeder too high. Is it supposed to be at head height or their backs...
Hey there,
My husband built this mostly by himself over a few weeks, really quick work for his first project. We have gotten it livable for the chickens and now my girls are in there full time. They just figured out how to roost inside the coop on their own. Mama's so proud. LOL
Still to...
We got these ladies from a woman that has a 100% guarantee that her pullets are pullets so if one turns into a roo, we get to exchange it. Sooo, I was looking at them today and I suddenly am wondering about the NH red. I'm 100% sure on the other wyandottes.
These chicks are about 8 weeks...
Hello All!!
Here is my chicken coop, it still isn't done and it isn't even in it's final resting place in the yard. Right now it is right off our patio, so close to the electrical plug and making things easier on those building it!
Still to do: build a door to close off the run from the...
I went today to get 2 more chicks, just 2! Chicken math strikes again, but only got one extra. LOL
The lady at the farm said that likely all 4 of my original chicks are boys, I showed her shots of them today with their bright red combs and all that. Blah. I'm sick over that part of all this...
