Pretty sure its a rooster. Seems to be crowing. My husband saw it try to mount one of our hens, but wanted some other opinions. It has a floppy comb, it has some "lacy" like saddle/tail feathers.
I have five chickens who are 30 weeks. Been getting eggs from 3 of them for the last 10 weeks. (well one just went broody...) I still haven't gotten any eggs from our EE and our Chantecler hen. I added supplemental lighting several weeks ago, in the mornings, in their coop.
Is this normal to...
Does it matter if the Oyster Shell gets wet from the rain? I poured off the water and a few seemed to still eat it. Just wondering if its still beneficial when its water logged?
I have 5 pullets. The Russian Orloff and the EE both have this area, under their beak, in neck area....that the feathers/skin seems really loose and appears some feathers are missing. The other three are totally fine.
any ideas/
I have 5 chickens and finally one is starting to lay. The first 5 eggs, she layed inside a nest box. Now the last 3 she has layed in a corner of the coop. Any thoughts on how to get her back into the nest box? Anything special to entice her? LOL
We feed Scratch & Peck chicken feed which is whole grain. Yesterday the food dispenser got caught in a sudden downpour. I mixed the food all up. Some is dry, some formed crumbles from the wet stuff. I put it back in dispenser and fed it to them last night and today. I'm sure I will need to...
First of all...once your hens are on oyster shell.....do you still need to offer grit?
and where do you prefer to offer it. Inside the run or inside the coop?
Does it matter if it gets wet? (I think not).
THANKS
For those who use Scratch & Peck feed, what kind of feeder do you use? Any tips on what works best?
I have one of those 11lb feeders that you add to the top. It just seems like with the extra fine dust/food that this feed creates that not all of the 'chuncky' food is making its way down...
Here is a picture of where we will be putting our run. To the left of this shed/coop. I will dig out a few plants that are there, but what to do with rest?
Do we leave it as is and let chickens at it?
Do we mow it down?
Or do we rototill the whole thing for fresh dirt for chickens?
THANKS...
This is the ventilation we have installed. I'd love some feedback! We also have a window on opposite wall, that can be opened and closed as needed (covered in hardware cloth).
Exterior/interior pictures of same wall.
Started our coop this weekend. 4x8 shed type with a front porch and back "carport" to park the lawn mower and hang gardening tools. The chicken door to run will come out the right end with an entry door at the left end.
Obviously, the current firepit will need to be relocated!

I have six chicks (one is a bantam). We are building a 4x8 shed. Is 4 feet long enough for a roost for that amount of chickens? We are doing a poop board so trying to maximize space. Thinking of doing the roost at one one end of shed.
