I've had lots of Brodie's and this is a hen who went broody about 5 months ago, hatched and raised chicks then went back to normal egg-laying. Now she is doing all the broody signs again. She stayed on the best for a day then roosted at night. She puffed up and growled while on the roost. What's...

Questions on how long to separate pens for breeding.

We are fixing to start separating pens and I want to know how long I should wait before I start collecting eggs. The hens get bred by all the roosters out there(but not over bred) and I don't know how long it will take for pure eggs.

Another went broody late November when the second one was still sitting (we were still trying to break her). We gave those...

    Unusual for a Phoenix?

Usually my Phoenix hens lay about bantam sized eggs even though they are medium sized birds. Today my oldest hen, who is about 1-2 years old, layed an egg that was very large. It was a perfect fit in the carton for x-large eggs. Is this normal? She has never layed one this size.
