I have 40 golden comets, a few RIR and 2 Dominique's, all of which are 30+ weeks old. I'm only getting 18 eggs a day, at the max. I'm feeding 16% lay pellets, free choice calcium, scraps, and grass clippings. Does anyone have an idea as to why I am not getting more eggs?
Thanks
I just got in 25 BBW Toms...and had couple questions. Will I have any problems with all of them being in a pen together fo16 weeks? Will they fight...? I hope that a Tom will taste as good as a hen... I got males because they grow faster, which means I don't have to keep them as long...
I have 25 BBW Toms that are hatching on September 8th. If they are fed high protein feed (27%) and scratch each day... will 11 weeks be long enough for them to fill out? I have to harvest the weekend before thanksgiving and I want them to meaty and also have some fat.... that's why I will...
I am just about ready to harvest my first round of CX. Everything started out good. I only lost 4 out of 50 while in the brooder, then when I moved them to the outdoor pen they started dropping left and right. We had a few cold snaps below freezing and every morning there would be 2-3 more...
I have been looking all over for a simple feed recipe and all I find has 100 ingredients and is not saving a bit of money. I'm talking about Corn, Wheat, Soybeans, maybe some fish meal....stuff like that.
Does anyone have a recipe that I can mix to feed to my layers to keep them healthy and...
As the weather gets warmer, the smells get stronger. Yes, I clean out my pens on a regular basis....but that doesn't help a ton with the smell. My question: Is Hydrated Lime safe to put in the pens with chickens? I have been told by a few people that it will not hurt them at all, and help...
There are my 2 week old CX chicks. I ordered 50 and have lost 3, but one appears to have a messed up leg, so it may be 4 soon. I have been feeding them fermented 17% grower feed and an electrolyte additive to their water. I hope to keep them in this brooder for 1.5 -- 2 more weeks. Is it...
Who all raises and sells meat birds for a profit? For me...feed is the main cost that cuts into profits when buying it from a feed store. Does anyone out there have a method of cutting down raising costs (particularly feed) so that it does not cut so much into what you net in the end??
All...
I live in SC. if I brood my 15 broilers from Meyer for 3 weeks in a temp controlled room/brooder, should they be ok living outdoors from then on?...for the rest of the 8-9 weeks?
Thanks for the help
I am getting ready to order 50 white broilers from Meyer. Has anyone had a good experience with them? I have been looking in local grocery stores (south carolina) and see that whole chickens sell for $1.69/lb. What would be a fair price for me to ask for mine? they will be fed chick starter...
I had a friend give me LOTS of laying pellets and I want to feed them to my turkeys to cut down on cost. Will they get the nutrition they need from eating only chicken laying pellets? Thanks.
What do yall use as a nest box for turkey laying season? I have my birds in a large pen, easterns and BR, and want to go ahead and get something set up so they can get used to it. Is it better to have the laying/hatching area elevated or is it better for hens to lay eggs on the ground in an...
I am getting 2 doe pygmy goats and have a few questions. I already have my pen build...15'x30'....but need to build a shelter for them. What size should I make it? My fence is 4' high and secured all around. Do you think I will have any problems with them trying to escape? I plan to let...
In attempt to keep costs down, I have been feeding my older turkeys a mixture of 50/50 wheat and shelled corn (not cracked). I undersatnd that this may not be the absolute best feed mix on the market, but could I expect healthy birds being fed this?
Thanks.
I had 10 Bourbon Reds and 10 Eastern Wilds in 2 separate brooders...both 1 weeks old...being fed the same thing (28% protein game bird) with fresh water every day...fresh straw in brooder daily...fine grit available free choice. Temp has been consistent...90-95 degrees. The eastern wilds looks...
So...I bought 4 Bronze turkey's 2 weeks ago, but didnt realize that they were the Broad Breasted breed. After talking to a few people, it sounds like they are only suposed to live about 6 months, then be butchered. I intended to keep them for years...but it sounds like they may get to heavy to...
I am getting 4 turkeys and know that I want at least 1 male. I would like to have 2 males, 2 females....but wanted some advise. If the two males grow up together, would they fight each other? Would 2 males and 2 females be good to go in a 12'x12' pen?
Thanks for the help.
