A friend told me she had a RIR she needed to find a home for. I took it, but I'm not so sure it's a RIR. Doesn't look like any I've seen. Can anyone help me out? I'm mainly just curious. We have a Buff Orpington, and though she looks similar to the buff, it is definitely darker and different...
Eggs left in a coop for two days (high temp of 80ish)...safe to eat or not? Trying to decide if I can salvage them or if I need to get rid of them (or feed them back to the hens). Thanks for any thoughts!
I think I've been feeding my young pullet (about 22-24 weeks) incorrectly...for quite awhile now. She is in with two laying pullets, and they have all be getting layer feed since I got them several months ago. This youngest one has not started laying yet. Should I change the feed to starter...
Can a bantam be in a coop with larger chickens? It's a small flock...only one BO, one BR, and one EE. Looking to get one or two bantams, but want to be sure they would be ok together since I don't have a separate space for them.
So we have a Buff Orpington hen that we bought two months ago. We were told that she was about 10 months old at the time and "laying". We waited, and waited, and waited for an egg and finally gave up thinking that she was an old hen and the guy either got her mixed up (he had like 100 chickens...
Discovered this morning that our 5 mo old EE had a bad eye. It was closed and wet looking. The feathers around her eye were kind of matted, and it looked slightly goopy. She did eventually open her eye, and it looked fine other than maybe being a little more wet-looking than the other side...
So I've thought this is a pullet from the start, but seeing some of the pictures on here of similar birds, I'm starting to question it. What does everyone think? Pullet, right?? These pics were taken last month at about 3 mo old, however, "she" still looks pretty much the same.
Trying to figure out if our 8 week Leghorn is a he or a she. We are new to this, so very unsure. We don't have another to compare it to. We were leaning towards a cockerel, but then someone showed us a hen, and now we are questioning it. Maybe it's too soon to know....
We received a laying hen from someone a little over a week ago. However, it has yet to lay. It is in a coop with a younger pullet that was introduced a few days later. We have had lots of rainy weather in the last week, and the days are getting shorter here in Michigan, but we thought it would...
