    Disinfecting? How and with what?

We emptied our coop last fall. Cleaned it out and sold our chickens. They were old and I wasn't going to feed them all winter. For the worst winter ever, glad I did. There was 3 ft of snow to the coop almost the entire winter and now it is surrounded by water (never happened before in our 4...

Splayed legs, how long to tape?

So I posted on the 4th about having a chick that couldn't stand. I don't know if it was a true splayed leg, but that is how I ended up treating it. The chick will now stand and walk with its legs taped. But it still falls down and sits on its hunches most of the time. I worry if I take the...

CHick barely stands, sores on legs, ??? Help Pic included

It will stand if I stand it up, but it doesn't seem to have the strength to get up on its own. Then it doesn't stay up long. It will push up while resting on those sores spots, but not get up to its feet. Any ideas of what happened and/or how to fix/help this chick?

    Hypothermia EMERGENT

Found one of my turkeys in the pool almost dead. He had agonal breathing and his flesh and beak were very pale. I pulled him from the water and dried him with a towel as best I could. I then blew dry most of his feathers with a blow dryer. I keep the blow dryer back far enough so I wouldn't...

Ideas on how to increase humidty

I placed a little giant still incubator with automatic turner in my daughter's 3rd grade class. I had no problem hatching from it last year. But apparently, the school is much drier then my house. The teacher couldn't get the humidity higher then 30%. Most of the eggs pipped, but none made...

    Aggressive Tom

I tried to hatch a bunch of turkeys last year and only got ONE :( He free ranges with our chickens. In the last month, he has become very aggressive. I am pretty sure I already know the answer to this next question, but I am going to ask it anyway. If I get him his own hens, will this calm...

    Half Eaten Chicken

I found the remains of an attack in my coop this morning. Apparently there had been another, but it was in a corner I hadn't looked into. So probably this other one happened the night before. The first one (lost in the corner) only had a leg remaining. The one I found this morning had its...

What color are newly hatched Royal Palm poults?

I ordered some eggs off Ebay of the only two that developed (didn't hatch) one had yellowish feathers(fuzz) and the other all black feathers(fuzz). These were supposed to be pure royal palm. All the eggs were the same shape and color, just the developed poults were not.

    2 More Lockdown Questions

I can't keep the humidity above 60%. I have all the chambers full and I have four soaked maxi-pads in with it (soaked last night). The humidity says 57%. These are turkey eggs and are actually supposed to be above 70% at lock down. Anything else I can do? Is maybe the monitor wrong? Another...

    Shipped Eggs Question WWYD?

I just put two of my 7 ordered eggs into lock down. I candled all of them and 5 did not appear viable. I expected some development in a couple of them. What I found was 2 of the eggs had the yolks attached to the side of the egg. I put them in the bator 6 hours after I got them. So it...

    New Poults Too!

I just bought 2 bronze and 2 white breasted poults from Rural King (total 4). I have no idea the ages. They have just a few wing feathers and the rest of their bodies are fuzzies. I have 2 turkey eggs in a bator that are due to hatch on the 27th. Can I put them together once the new ones...

When Can you Mix Young and Old?

What is the right age to put young pullets/roos in with the older hens? I have 20 older chicks in a hoop tractor. They are really starting to out grow it. I got them first of March from Rural King. So they are about 6 weeks old. If you can believe it, I have two that still have fuzzy/fluffy...

Can't get the humidity regulated, turkey eggs arrive today, HELP

The highest I have been able to maintain the humidity is 44%. I have read the humidity needs to be over 50, preferably in the 60s, during incubation and higher then 70 during lock down. I have a LG still air incubator with automatic turner. I filled all the chambers on the bottom with warm...

    Thermometer Problems - suggestions please

So I have one of those Little Giant still air incubators (styrofoam). I tried twice to hatch some eggs with no success. I thought maybe it was the temp because I kept opening the bator to turn eggs. So I went and got an automatic turner so I wouldn't ahve to open it so often. Both the bator...
