My coop is too small, I know that, and I plan to build a larger one as soon as I can get my kids to let go of their swing set, probably summer 2014. The hens only sleep in their coop, and are free whenever it is light out, so I don't think they are suffering really.

I have one aracauna hen, about 4 months old, and she just seems different to me than my other 7 hens. She walks differently, holds her differently, tilts her head to the side (looking to the sky, always the same side up) to look at me rather than holding her head up right and turning toward me...
If my chickens free range (in a fenced yard) all day, is there any reason I have to have a run? I'm altering my coop to have more coop and less run since they don't use the run except to eat, and I'm wondering what is stopping me from converting the entire run into coop. Will I regret it?

I live on an urban lot (about 7000 sq feet or so) with a fenced back yard (I think it is probably 40 x 60 feet). The fence is a typical privacy fence, so I guess 6 feet tall?. The two gates are 4 feet tall. My chickens free range back there, they have never attempted to leave the yard...
