My grand daughter and I hand raised an orphaned homer that failed to come home on a 20 mile toss. It was one of the few times she had not accompanied me on a release.
I called later that day to tell her the news. She then asked me where I released the bird from Monteagle was...
I lost 2 squabs to the cold last night. It is that time of year that if you have late nesting pairs. You may have to supply warmth to aid in their development. This worked for me in past years.
I recently trapped a lost racer for a pigeon fancier who is out of province.
I got in contact with the owner and he is to pick up the bird shortly.
On the upside I will meet a fancier I have never met before.
I have been notified of 2 more lost racing pigeons who may also need capturing.
Still...
Has anyone of our members employed this method?
Something that was brought to my attention for controlling the population in your loft was submerging newly laid eggs in corn oil. This will stop the development of the air sac and hence stop the egg from hatching.
My run is about 5+- ft high with no top. If you clip the feathers on one wing of each bird it will help.
On some birds you may even have to clip a few secondary flight feathers.
One wing throws the bird off balance and is more effective than trimming equal amounts off both wings is my...

I did a release for one of Canada's fine young citizens that made an impact on our country and the world while fighting a fatal form of cancer. This picture is Becca five months before she passed away.
September 15 to celebrate her life I released 18 doves in her honour (one for...
I live trapped this pigeon yesterday it had no bands for identification. It was thin dehydrated and would have died if a couple had not begun to feed it.

I lost a squab today. I have seen it coming for the last few days really. One of my dominate male birds was taken by an owl when my son closed up the loft a bit early one night (I had done a release about 100 miles away for a wedding). The female was then left to raise 2 squabs on her own which...
It pays to check your chicken or squabs over. I recently corrected one of my squabs with spayed leg (you have to catch it early as a rule or you will be forced to cull). This a video that may help you solve the problem if it should occur in your flock.
In my situation I had only a small...
I have a mated pair of pigeons this is the third round of eggs they laid and all rounds have been abandoned. Including the last round. What could be going wrong? Suggestions.
Lately I have a few Pigeon Pairs refusing to use the nest bowl. I have come up with a plan to form a ring with a diameter of about 10 inches. The ring will be made from a piece of rubber hose with a wooden dowel to hold both ends together.
Hoping it does the trick.
