Hello. I've recently decided to add turkeys to my poultry wish list. I have two questions: 1) How far away should turkeys be from chickens to keep them from getting blackface?
2) I cant decide between red bourbon and royal palms. They're both beautiful and I've been told that the Red Bourbons...
There's an apparently abandoned or lost Turkey near Ozark, Alabama. She's been wandering around by Detroit Custom Paint and Collision trying to get into cars to go home. Can someone rescue her?
Hello. I want to raise turkeys strictly for personal use, but I'm not sure which breed is right for me? Any suggestions? I live in central Arkansas. And I'd like a breed that has lots of flavor. I don't want the broad breasted or other genetically altered breed.
I understand Langshans are very broody. If I wanted to allow a hen to hatch eggs, how many days can one add eggs to the clutch without compromising chicks? I'm guessing 3 days, am I right? Thank you.
Out of curiosity: I've noticed a lot of people buy chicks and eggs. I am wondering if they have a hen to raise them, or do chicks know by instinct how to be chickens?
Thank you for sharing.
I've seen some wonderful and interesting coop designs and I had an interesting thought and wanted to ask some experienced chicken people what they thought:
I am considering using the area under my deck as a coop. The deck itself is 10 x 12 with head room of 41 - 47 inches (it slopes). I have...
Hello my fellow BYCers! I needed to take a step back from chicken research. I am officially at the "building a home for chickens" stage.
I've missed you all and I'm looking forward to getting back into all things chicken!

I was recently told about a farm that has Blue Australorps. When I asked about buying some, I was told they don't ship live birds and they have a 2 year waiting list for eggs.
Then I was told that they started theirs by breeding a blue Orpington with a black Aussie. That seems strange to me...
I have read several really good ideas about creating a bath for my chickens and I have also read about the biggest benefit being keeping ticks, mites, etc. off of them.
I have also read that DE is very good at keeping such problems to a minimum and I was wondering if I should put food grade...
I am getting a starter flock of BA's in a couple of weeks. I saw the cutest silkie at a meetup and couldn't bear the idea of him ending up dinner so I have decided to make him my farm mascot. I don't want to breed him or for him to get to my hens, so I am trying to come up with a solution. I...
I have finally signed the paperwork for my new home and beginning to collect the materials I need to build my coop. I have read many posters suggest that the plastic tubs from Wally World would make great broody boxes.
The ones I got are 16 in wide x 21 in deep x 16 in high. Will those be...
I've been reading several of the goose threads particualrly the Embeden thread and I have just about decided that I want to give geese a go. I will have a 60 long x 30 deep enclosed "yard" for them and chickens, bearing in mind that I will have to divide that area in half so the chickens and...
I would like to get a starter flock of Australorps or Orpingtons. I would prefer to start with adults since a I am new to chickens and I don't feel comfortable raising chicks. I am looking for full size chickens, not banties.
The perfect situation would be 6 hens and a rooster. With at least...
I really want to have a couple of mommas because I want a continual meat supply as well as eggs. If I purchase a full grown hen and introduce her to some chicks that I buy from hatchery, will she raise them? I realize there are no guarantees and I should have a brooderr ready just in case, but...
After seeing all of the interiors of y'alls coops and the pictures of the nesting boxes, I have a MUCH better idea of what I'm doing. SOMEBODY PLEASE STICKY THOSE THREADS!!!!
THANK YOU ALL FOR POSTING THOSE PICS!!!! (btw I'm ready to turn into a chicken and live in some of those)
As a...
For the chicken yard, I am considering a chain link fence rather than chicken wire because it's stronger and I think it will keep predators out better.
Also, if anyone has a suggestion for flooring besides my concrete floor, I would appreciate the input.
THANK YOU!!!
I haven't even gotten my flock yet and y'all already have me wanting turkey for Thanksgiving and goose for Christmas. (what does goose taste like any way?) I'm getting a lot of great info digging through past threads.
I haven't found this yet but can a goose and a turkey be raised together...
